Where you plug it in
Sound begins with the record spinning on the platter. Anything that affects that, with affect your sound.
Do I 'Hafta' clean a brand new audiophile LP?
Yes. Even new 180g needs cleaning.
Setting up Analog In a New Room From Scratch
Find a room null. I usually put my table on a wall mounted shelf on one of the side walls. Then I put my phono stage and the rest of my equiment near it and run long ICs to the monobloc amps. It's nice because I have a preamp with no remote contro...
Suspended Basis vs Nonsuspended Teres
Table before cartridge. I would argue that the sound starts with the vinyl spinning on the platter of the turntable. Then it goes to cart/arm, then phono. Our table upgrade was much more "jaw dropping" than our cart upgrade. YMMV.
Sonic Frontiers Phono One: Gain too high?
Well I guess I need a new linestage, amp, or speakers. Because I always seem to run out of gain when playing vinyl on my system. :-( I don't have that problem with CDs, but my DAC has 3.5V output. So that got me to thinking what increasing my phon...
Sonic Frontiers Phono One: Gain too high?
Why Kenny? If my math is correct wouldn't 0.6mv with 62dB gain only be 0.75v? Isn't line source 2.0v? Wouldn't a 1.5mv cart be 2.0v after 62dB of gain? It always seemed that phono stages needed more gain to me. Else don't you have to relay on your...
What's in your record cleaning machine????

Best way to integrate a sub into 2 channel system?

Audio nirvana ends with planar/electrostats?
I though it was horns and SETs?
Maggie 3.6R performance dilemma..
two times the width of the speakers. Isn't that what the maggie manual (1.6s, only?) says in regards to seating distance? I think it's a maggie thing. If the maggies are X feet apart, you 2X away from the center plane, forming an isosceles triangl...
"Reference" SS vs"Reference" Tube
I wondered that too, notes stereophile's separate categories for Class A power amplifiers. It seems backwards to me. I would think class B, C, and D glass and sand amps would sound more different than Class A ones. But they only separate the Class...
Which are the top DVD-A players?
Denon DVD-9000 should be included, no? Also the Toshiba 9200, even even both units are rather old at this point. Also consider some of the Arcam units someone else mentioned.
playback, hard drive vs. transport/DAC
I see the hard disk based solutions replacing dedicated transports, but not DACs. In fact, I see hard disks and outboard DACs complimenting each other rather nicely. :-)
SACD 2 channel vs Redbook 2 Channel
Points taken Ritteri. But I still feel SACD is a nice niche format, even if it isn't going anywhere. Maybe I'll have to try a high end redbook player some time. Even still I think my low end SACd player does enough stuff correctly to warrant keepi...
SACD 2 channel vs Redbook 2 Channel
Well Little_milton, we as audiophiles should not underestimate the effect masting engineer (is that right word?) has on the final product. Most (I inclided) would argue his impact is more profound than the end media technology (in this case SACD v...
