Wharfedale Emerald 97 - compare to? yeah, the wharfes were pretty boxy sounding.
Best Downgrades you've done Eosone RSF-600s to Wharfedale Emerald 97s. Paid about $500/demo at Best buy to $200/new+shipping at uBid. I no longer have either set of speaker though. Everything else I've bought cost more than what it replaced.
Wharfedale Emerald 97 - compare to? As a former wharfedale owner, I echo the comments here. I had a pair of emerald 97s about two years ago (two speakers ago). Mine were finished in walnut veneer. I paid under $200 from ubid.com. I think the retail prices are inflated, but for the p...
Seperates or Receiver on a Budget I would still do separates with a budget of $1k or less - let alone $2k. No question, not an option. Unless you get something that works well together like a NAD receiver and spendor speakers. I lot of it has to do with the amplifier sections. Plu...
Digital or Coax? Cpatbay, don't you mean TOSLink and not just plain optical? When I think optical I still think AT&T glass. Even if AT&T glass isn't widely used anymore.
I have a confession to make I would hope he is including is home and cars (and maybe education) in that debt total.
2 channel movie lstening;is it worth the sacrafice another vote for 2 channel home theather. yeah, multichannel is much more immersive, but it depends on what your priorities are. It's much more cost effective to do high end 2 channel with video graphed on, than anything else. Plus you get two *gr...

Speakers to Mate with McCormack? Magnepan 1.6. a friend has this combo and loves it.
Do You Remember Your First CD Player? Aiwa XC-30M in 1999. that was my first standalone CD player. Before that I had two different 'boom boxes' in the early and mid 90's. Oh yeah, also had one of the Sony discmans. I got that in '94 IIRC. Just sold the Aiwa this past week. *Sniff* I h...
TV Recommendations I would get both a TV and a projector. Spend about 500 for a nice 27 or 32 inch direct view CRT, then spend the balance on a $1k digital projector, screen, and cables. Check out the sub-$3500 digital projector forum at AVS. I would do that and ski...
Speakers that work in a medium room to match Krell My armchair quarterback reply would be the Wilson Sophias. But if it were me, I'd look at something like a Vandersteen 3A Sig (or it's replacement). Or of it really was me, I'd look at a pair of Magnepan 3.6/R or 20.1 (push/pull) and pull then out...
Best overall Speakers for $2,500.00 or less, New? magnepan 1.6 and a subwoofer. It's going to be though to get something as uncolored as a maggies for your price range. And definitely NOT with a floorstander. I would demo the Paradigms and the Magnepans to see which brand you might prefer. |
