Good AV Receiver with good AM/FM reception. FM/AM tuners categorically in most A/V receivers are going to be at best "after thoughts" and in worst cases "complete jokes." I doubt you will achieve much better than what you can with a decent vintage tuner and a roof-mounted aerial. Are you op...
What do I purchase an Analog or a Digital tuner My $7 vintage Sansui tuner from eBay causes jaws to drop when people actually hear the thing. Get a good fidelity jazz broadcast from a public radio station or college (either can be found like below like 91.9Mhz FM or so on your dial). The trick ...
Is SACD a dead format? Based on the comments from Bigtee and Eldartford, it makes me wonder if the current state of commercial high-end is just a generational anomaly? It seems that high-end may be retreating its DIY roots. Which isn't really a bad thing. ...

New journey - Samsung HD841 Universal Player Agreed with the variance theory. If one reads the posts on the digital board on Audio Asylum, for example many people had to go through several "toshibas" before finding one that sounded decent. There does appear to be some variance is sound quali...
What are your favorite SACDs My two favorite are Thomson: The Plow That Broke the Plains/The River - Stokowski and Tchaikovsky/Saint-Saens/Bruch - Wispelwey. The sound quality is just so pure and fantastic! The Virgin Thompson/Stokowski is probably one of the best analog reco...
How do you cope with dust build up ? I completely disassemble my system at least twice per year to thoroughly dust, clean, and clean the cable connections and terminals. The chrome tube amps get dusted and their chrome polished once a month or so. I also dust the rest of the system a...
If you won powerball and could purchase the best Although I admit I would have to resist the urge to buy a pair of Magnepan 20.1/Rs and the VTL Wotans. ;-)
If you won powerball and could purchase the best I would outbid you all on the eBay vinyl that catches my eye. I would also travel a lot more a likely bring home stacks of vinyl and (grasp!) polycarbonate. I would mostly keep the same home and stereo. Both have brought us joy and we don't need m...

To Play, or Not to Play? I play them. They taste great, just like baby condor eggs.
Best turntable for easy setup and no maintenence? Music halls. The Regas sound bright to me. If you have more money get a Teres, Nottingham, or VPI.
Who thinks they got the best deal on Audiogon? I think I got the best deal. I've had my current CD player for over three years now and couldn't be happier. I think that speaks volumes for value. $$$ ;) Top that!Aaron
Coping in an Age of Uncertainty I bought a good enough CD player and spent the rest on vinyl. Or rather I PLAN to spend the rest on my vinyl front end. I'm not certain if I'll ever buy any more SACDs at this point. I figure 75 years from now, I'll still be enjoying my LPs. :-) |
