Help setting up JMW tone arm
This set screw was just to the right of the cueing assembly and just above the cueing lever, screwed horizontally into the supporting member. Perhaps if this screw were loosened, you could raise the entire cueing assembly to the desired height.Thi...
Help setting up JMW tone arm
Oh one last question, how does one adjust the arm lif.It doesn't seem to lift high enough to raise the arm from the record. Steve
Help setting up JMW tone arm
I did not notice wobble during play, just while moving the arm. If it's normal I can live with it. Never had a unipivot arm before. Now I just waiting on a stylus force gauge so I can set it up.Steve
Maynard Ferguson
Having been a trumpet player thru my middle and high school years in the "Jazz Band" I was fasinated by Maynard's ability. I started purchasing his albums on vinyl during the mid to late 80's while I was in High School. The live San Francisco albu...
Best "Rock/Pop" Debut Album?
Piper at the gates of Dawn - Pink Floyd. Syd was a genius.
Which Albums do you use for reference Listening ?
Roger Waters "Amused to Death" - great for testing bass response. This album has it all, low bass, explosions, PP Arnolds excellent vocals, Jeff Beck's awesome guitar, and Q sound.
oil change t/t
seems a bit odd regarding the Mobil One oil. I thought the whole point of synthetic motor oil was it's properties do not change with temperature.
Roger Waters remasters?
Radio KAOS is just a terrible mix. Too bright for my taste. The vinyl is just as bad. Amused to death however is perfection. And the vinyl release is PURE Heaven. THE benchmark for rock vinyl.
Recommend a TT/Tonearm combo under $2000?
A VPI scout with a RB300 modified with VTA adjustment might be the way to go then? I like the fact the Scout is modifiable to tweak the sound in the direction you want to go with it.
Recommend a TT/Tonearm combo under $2000?
I've been reading up on the VPI Scout with the JMW9 tone arm. Retails for $1600. Has anyone used this combo? Every review I can find on it seems to hold it as the best turntable/tonearm combo under $2000.

The problem is finding a hi end audio dealer near where I live to audition different turntables. There doesn't seem to be any. Just the typical Best Buy and Circuit City. We used to have a hi end audio dealer years ago, but he didn't stay in busin...
MP3's and the audiophile
Shorten (SHN), Free Lossless Audio Codec (FLAC) and Monkey's Audio (APE) are three lossless codecs you should consider. Of the three, FLAC is my personal favorite, but Shorten also works well. You can also use a hack for the ipod called Rockbox (w...
Reel to reel deck -Talk me in or out of buying
I too enjoy "obsolete" media. I have a Technics 1500 R2R. It makes awesome sounding recordings. A Wollensack 8075 8 track recorder. You have not heard the full potential of the 8 track cartrdige until you've made recordings on one of these. An Aka...
Best "P" mount cartridge?
I'm pretty sure Shure (no pun intended) never made the V15VxMR seiers in a P mount. They should be standard 1/2" mount carts. P mount carts are "plug and play" type carts normally used on linear tracking turntables and other budget type tables. Te...
Using a DVD recorder to record radio programs
A full frame Time Base Corrector will defeat macrovision. Look around the internet for Datavideo TBC-1000. You would install this between the outputs of the dvd player and the inputs of the dvd recorder. However, your best bet would be a simple co...
