Jolida JD-9 and Dynavector 23RS Question I own the JD9, and unless the rest of your system has extremely low gain, the JD9 should accommodate just about any cartridge. Mine sounds great with every cartridge I've used. What leads you to believe it won't work with the Dyna 23RS?David
Do I need preamp? Yes, you'll need a phono preamp.david
relationship between rec. and the other tubes? Rectifiers can definitely alter the sound, but as always, it's system and circuit dependent. I agree that the 12AT7s will have the most effect. My 6SN7 preamp is also tube rectified, and a good NOS 5AR4 made a noticeable difference over the new pr...
long range wireless mouse suggestions I'm guessing you have a way to get cabling from the room the PC is in to the room the TV monitor is in, as you must have a cable running from the PC to the monitor. As long as that's the case, get a USB wireless mouse and run a USB extension cable...
Phono Pre Kit Builders:Thoughts & Recommendations I built a Bugle and it was terrific at 40 dB but pretty noisy at 60 dB, and Jim Hagerman said it really wasn't designed for high gain. I didn't have any medium output cartridges like your Grado, so I never tried it in the mid 50s. It might work, b...
how to change the tonearm cable? Sumiko MMT has a DIN plug, so just take the bottom off the table, unplug the DIN to RCA cable, and plug in the DIN to XLR cable. Replace the bottom and you're done.David
Well Tempered Turntable Specifications I've owned a WTRP and agree with Lewm that the bearing design makes rumble a non-factor. However, that same bearing design makes it difficult to achieve speed stability as the table has to be absolutely level and the belt tensioned very precisely....

Music Reference RM Mono? I think Roger is a scholar and a gentleman, having owned one of his EM7s at one point. However, I'm guessing that amp designers don't necessarily have the same priorities as we crazy audiophiles, hence his very practical answers to your and Clio09...
Music Reference RM Mono? I have no experience with the RM10s, but I had a similar situation when I went from a single Monarchy SM-70 Pro to using two as monoblocks, driving 90dB Von Schweikert VR-1s in an 18x14 room. The monoblock configuration was better in every way. The...
NIN Pretty Hate Machine remaster Amazon delivered my remastered vinyl of PHM today. Overall a stellar effort, although the digital haze on the CD version of Head Like a Hole gave it a certain quality the remaster just doesn't have. The "quiet" songs, though, like Sanctified, Some...
Are my ears just fooling me? Stringreen asks the right questions and Atmasphere hits the nail right on the head, as usual. Until you find a recording that you KNOW captures that live sax sound you're heard and crave, you're just chasing your tail. There are a couple suggestion...
Top 5 Cue Joints Charlie's BBQ - Roseburg, OregonBrisket to die for, amazing sauces; chipotle apricot! And the best pastrami I've had outside the east coast.Amazing they've survived as Oregonians have no idea what good BBQ is like.David
Song covers that are better than the originals Golden Palominos covering The Ocean by Led Zeppelin. Don't think they ever recorded it, but they performed it as the encore at the Paradise in Boston on 3/7/86. Syd Straw on lead vocals, with Jack Bruce and Bernie Worrell in the band. Awesome show...
If upgrades were no longer possible would you be I could be completely happy with the equipment I have. I went 20 years at one point with no changes, have had a flurry in the last 5-6 years, and I'm slowing down once again. Once I settle on a tuner to have modded, I'll be pretty much done except... |
