A21SE vs Supernait 3 vs Eci 6 mkII
It's a little unfair to compare Luxman 507 with Sugden. A better comparison will be Luxman 550 or 590 which run in class A much longer.OP -- you should definitely put the Luxman 550 on your list. If your budget permits, a 590 AXII is a solid conte...
TANNOY will stop Hi-FI ?
Another one bites the dust :(This is what will happen ...Production moves to China ...Sales of Tannoy drops even further because why would you pay the same price when the novelty (hand-built in Europe) has worn off ...Tannoy becomes just one more ...
Older vs. newer REL subs
@missioncoonery -- I hope you can shed some light on what aspects of music improved when you moved up from REL's T to S line? My room is 20 x 15, when I called REL customer service they said T9i will be good enough (I already own one) for my room ...
Older vs. newer REL subs
I'm following this thread with a lot of interest. I have a T9i sub and have been contemplating whether to get another T9i (used) or save more to move up the line. The problem is that I bought the T9 in white to match the KEF LS50s which were also ...
Streamer to go with the Denafrips Terminator?
Sonore Optical Rendu is a really good streamer. I preferred it over Lumin U1 Mini, Innuos Zen mk3, and Zen Mini. If you can stretch your budget, Aurender N10 or Lumin U1 is excellent as well but much more costly.
Subwoofer for Kef LS50 Wireless II?
As far as REL is concerned, I have to agree with @missioncoonery. Using High Level Speakon connector with an after market cable is substantially better than using low level. I have tried this with several amps and speaker combinations. At least in...
Streaming vs. CD
Thanks, @rvpiano!I usually just use Roon for all my streaming needs nowadays, so Chromecast or Airplay modes are not of much use. I did try Airplay with Node 2i and agree that it was not all that good, same with Bluetooth.I'll be on the lookout fo...
Pimping your router
@antigrunge2 -- Thanks for your response. I'll look into the LPS you mentioned. I was previously considering getting and English Electric 8Switch, but the EMO filter is definitely worth a look.
Pimping your router
@antigrunge2 -- thank you for sharing your experiences. Very informative and educational. I have a couple of questions for you ...1. You mention that adding a separate power supply for the router yields considerable benefits. What are the sonic be...
Streaming vs. CD
@rvpiano -- I'm glad to hear that the Cambridge CXN is working out for you. I remember reading one of your posts where I think you were not too thrilled with the Node 2i. When you say the Cambridge streamer is better than Node 2i, are you comparin...
Audio envy - dang!
@lalitk It’s quite admirable how Audio Envy continues to improve their existing cable lineup. I have been using AE cables since 2018 and have enjoyed meaningful improvements with each release.Agreed. Although, something has to be said about past o...
Streamer upgrade
+1 on opticalRendu I have been using one for more than a year in my main system and find it to be a substantial improvement compared to Node 2i in my office system. Its calling card is a much lowered noise floor. But if cost is not an issue, also c...
Solid state amplifiers and sound stage, especially front to back "depth"
@hilde45 -- I had a similar problem when I went from ARC GSi75 to Luxman 590AXII. The soundstage width offered by the Luxman was just as wide but I felt the depth, while decent, was not as good as ARC.In my case, adding acoustic panels behind (low...
Audeze vs. HIFIMan vs. ??
+1 for Focals. I had both the Hifiman Arya and Focal Clears for more than a year. Both are excellent headphones, but I found the Clears to be better all-rounders with all kinds of music. The Aryas were good but sometimes the music felt a bit 'plas...
Streamer upgrade
OP -- about a year ago, I subscribed to Amazon HD, Tidal, Qobuz, and Spotify and compared the SQ using the same equipment for several weeks. Now mind you, this was a rather unscientific comparison in the sense that it was based primarily on listen...
