Does the first reflection point actually matter?? The first reflection point results from a basic flaw in most speaker designs: flat baffles with front firing speakers. The real solution to your problem are omnidirectional speakers which much more closely emulate the natural propagation of sound ...
Tubes? Real tube magic happens in SETs, no comparison. Have a look at the Wavac 833
USB sucks @ianderson the Zodiac Platinum USB port isue on Linux is fixable by inserting an USB Hub. The point of the thread is the variability of outcomes on the USB connection as a function of different cables, reclocking and galvanic insulation. The range...
USB sucks @rixthetrickCan I suggest you use a whiff of Caig Deoxit on either end rather than resort to brute force?
USB sucks @herman Since you like the Antelope DAC: may I suggest you try it on S/PDIF or AES/EBU? With the Schiit EITR the sound is far superior to USB all the way through. And by the bye: the Intona substantially improves the straight USB connection compar...
Why don‘t servers/players incorporate polarity switches @lalitk Your comment shows your profound ignorance on this topic, lest you care to elaborate
Why don‘t servers/players incorporate polarity switches @jaybe As I mentioned, I had this feature on Puremusic and am missing it now on my server/player. Also, there is a distinct split in recordings out of polarity which I estimate to be 80/20. In any case your comments seeks more to take a swipe at m...
USB sucks Far from having ‘dissolved itself‘ I sincerely hope that this thread might lead serious designers to reconsider whether rather than using a low end, convenience consumer interface with all its known foibles to transmit high quality audio, one migh...
Most organic / real / analogue sounding DAC (ideally with Volume Control) for $1500?????? Look at an Antelope Audio Zodiac Gold + Voltikus power supply: top DAC, very flexible inputs and very good preamp. There is a review on 6moons
Why don‘t servers/players incorporate polarity switches As a simple albeit cumbersome check you can change the polarity of your speakers and listen to the same piece of music
USB sucks No piece of metal wire can perfectly render a square wave from a digital source (i.e. 0-1) You have to contend with reflections and other distortions (e.g. IR frequencies) which have to be sorted at the receiving end. In that sense the actual wire...
Why don‘t servers/players incorporate polarity switches Recordings out of polarity have a dulling of the leading edge of notes that is quite distinct. (e.g. woodwinds sound like they are sucked in rather than blown)
USB sucks I wrote this post mainly to alert people that they might be missing out on substantially improved sound by improving/working around their USB connection, provided they can get it to work at all. That in my mind disqualifies USB as a future proof i...
Need preamp recommendation If you mainly use digital audio, I’d recommend going with a DAC/Preamp rather than separate units. If it’s just attenuation you are after get a passive e.g. Wavac att-s. Alternatively get a Bakoon amp and use the built-in attenuation.
Should a reference speaker be neutral, or just great sounding? A neutral speaker can still be sluggish or intransparent. ‘Great sound’ encompasses lots of things, especially the owners preferences.A truly reference speaker in my mind should have neutrality, speed and transparency to properly sound stage, imag... |
