Best speaker in the US $ 30-45.000,00 range
At around $24K -$26K the Coincident Technology Pure Reference Extremes are nigh impossible to beat. At $40K - $45 K the new Lansche No 5.1 speakers (with their Corona Plasma tweeter) are the cats pajamas. I have the Lansche No. 5's and couldn't be...
Which cost more: your system or your car?
My 2-channel system costs far more than my new Hyundai Genesis V8. I have an Einstein The Tube Mark II pre-amp, an Einstein The Light in the Dark stereo amp, Lindemann 820S SACD/CD player, Lansche No. 5 speakers, various expensive power cords and ...
Can you overpower a speaker
A person is in far more danger in using a low to medium powered amp that clips a lot and at high volume can definitely damage tweeters and sometimes other drivers. I have rarely seen high powered amps kill drivers, unless the power handling capaci...
Speakers on floor?
I have wood floors and borrowed some Paramount Zeeba speaker couplers for my Lansche No. 5 speakers. The improvement was astounding. I am definitely going to buy a pair.Greg
Sony SCD-XA5004ES vs Marantz SA11S2
If you get the Sony-XA5400ES with the Modwright Ultimate Truth mod it is definitely better than the Marantz.
Has anyone listened to the coincident linestage?
The only linestage I like as much as the Coincident Technologies is the Einstein The Tube Mark II which lists at over 3 times as much. While I have seen the Einstein online at $11,500, which is a great deal, the Coincident is such a bargain at its...
Tally up best preamplifier ever
The best under $2,000 would be the Doge 8. It has an excellent line stage and a very good phono section. At under $5,000 the Audio Horizon 2.2 is great. At $5,000, the Coincident Technologies Linestage is as good as $20,000 linestages. The only draw...
Downsizing from Ayre MX-R monoblocks
I've seen a Clayton M200, a 200 watt/channel Class A solid state amp on audiogon at $4,700. This is a great deal for a hellaciously great amp. It is easily the best amp at that price and the sound is grit and grain free. My second choice would be ...
Resolving amps
Maggies like a lot of power. I would choose between the following:McCormack DNA-500Modwright KWA-150Clayton Audio M100 or M200 class A amps
What amp stands for Cary monoblocks?
I love the Zeeba stands.
integrated amplifier with phono and usb
Hard to recommend anything without knowing your budget and the speakers you will be driving.
Best analog sounding cd player under 5K
A great player is the Modwright Sony 5400ES Ultimate Truth Mod. You can get a Sony 5400ES for about $1,200 and then send to Modwright for the $2,000 Ultimate Mod. You end up with an incredibly good CD/SACD player. It is probably better than anythi...
Single box tube linestage preamp - $3,000 used
If you have a great phono amp I would suggest getting (or at least trying) a Doge 8 preamp. It lists under $1,500 and is excellent by any standards. It even has phono outs, but that section, while quite good, is not up to the excellent linestage q...
Krell or Mark Levinson with Revel Ultima2's???
Personally I would go with either a Clayton M200 or M300--or a McCormack DNA-500. The all are superior to the Krells and the Levinsons.
Tube preamp choice- Vac Ren Sig IIa or Einstein ?
I have the Einstein The Tube Mark II and it is paired with an Einstein The Light in the Dark stereo amplifier. The preamp is particularly remarkable and the amp is excellent.
