Question about Class A
Forget anything about marketing and of course Krell 175 doesn’t have 175 Watt Class A, even most of Pass Labs amps don’t. Normally you will have 20-30W Class A, producing a heat of more than 100-150W for that kind of power. I doubt there is a good...
Two Sources, One DAC
USB and I2S inputs will give you the ultra HI-RES options like DSD512 and PCM 384KHz not available in other inputs, usually RCA coax would give up to 24/192KHz (which is very decent by the way) but if you want to try even higher you need USB or I2...
Two Sources, One DAC
It is fine idea, i use optical for my old CD player, coax for the new BR/SACD etc and USB for network/disk player
Do speaker cables have to rest on floor?
Fifteen years ago, I was young to the audiophile hi-end world. I had just started writing in a local magazine as reviewer, and had already reviewed some expensive gear. So I met this guy in a friend's shop and we met regularly at the same shop, di...
Review: Holo May (L2) DAC and the Musetec Audio (LKS Audio) MH-DA005 DAC Compaired
@yyzsantabarbara D90SE showed to me to have more bass compared to SMSL. It seems more precise but I am not interested much in bass, since I have enormous right now, kicking the couch, so I don’t need more. I don’t know if my system is neutral...
Review: Holo May (L2) DAC and the Musetec Audio (LKS Audio) MH-DA005 DAC Compaired
Very good points by melm and cindyment with one consideration. If it doesn't measure very good but it sounds good (at least to many people) it might be because the other things we don't measure are the ones which matter, maybe on the specific setu...

Very interesting thread and a great review, thank you for that.   1) I would like to show us impressions with some ethnic music, especially with African and Eastern musical organs. Dynamics of Natascha Atlas too. Also with male voices like John ...
Moving away from inefficient/low impedance speaker in order to move to a Tube Amp
Focal speakers have above 92db models. And they are pretty decent speakers.  Right now I drive 948s with Single Ended amplifier
Help me choose, used but excellent cond Maggies - Maggie MG12's or SMGb's
Many amplifiers can "drive" them and no it is not only the low impedance, it is the fact that they have very low sensitivity and you need fast current for them. If you really want them to sing, give them real power.

Do you have the amplifier to support them? You are going to need some nice 200W I had the MG12 go for them
Tyler Acoustics Highland H3.5 or Focal Aria 936
The problems I have with 948s is the huge bass (medium room and an amplifier that does not have problem to kick some real bass) and somehow I think upper highs are not really "hi-end". Vocals either female or male are perfect for me and whoever ha...

OK you can get a whole more bass with 948s if you like the focal's character. For imaging and sound stage, I changed amplifiers and I have huge image with 948s

What is it you don't like at 936?

Wow! 112db, they must be insane loud. However ATC seem out of budget here at 12K. ATC SCM40 is at 4K
