Carl hears through Diamond I use Diamond X3's throughout my system, as well as AQ Dragin SE cables. Burn-in on a Mobie was a godsend. No contest. Brand new Diamonds were cold and harsh. A week on a Mobie gets you to what Carl is describing. Yes, you can get there by playing...
Linn Lingo Tobias - you are of course right. My bad. The Lingo has a toroidal power supply.
Adapters, RCA to XLR IC s BAT Equip. But the BAT adapters are v. expensive.....(I think $ 150/pair). I have tow sets of the BAT adapters and also some Neutrik adapters. The Neutriks are pretty darned close IMHO, at one tenth the price.
Mix of RCA Balanced Cables. Is it ok? All balanced is better, but sometimes compromise is unavoidable. My BAT preamp is all blanced inputs and outputs, but my phono preamp and amps are RCA. I used adapters for a while, but when I bought new cables I had them temrinated w/ XLR at one e...
Linn Lingo Same for me. Haven't found PC's t mka emuch difference on the Linto ot the Lingo. Looks like the Brillian power supply on these units minizes cord impact. I use BMI Eeels on all other components.
Table only as good as it s cartridge? The folks at Linn would argue that the cartridge is the LAST thing you upgrade. The Linn hierarchy puts precise speed control above a better arm, and a better arm above a better cartridge. Following this philosophy, probably not worthwhile to spen...
Good Cowboy Junkies "Trinity Sessions"? The Simply Vinyl LP might not be too bad. The main beef with SVLP is that they dont necessarily (if ever) use first generation analog masters for the re-issues that were recorded that way. Given that TS was direct to digital, it MAY be OK. Some SV...
Room acoustics - yet again Another solution may be to listen in the nearfield, minimizing room effects. Granted, this won't help you in the low end that much, but from the midrange on-up you'll be fine and imaging/soundstaging will be near perfect. Even though I have a rect...
Good Cowboy Junkies "Trinity Sessions"? There is an LP pressing on the Simply Vinyl catalog. I've not heard it, but is ispressed on 180 gram vinyl. The best pressing is of course Classic Records' long out of print re-issue. I MAY have a "line" on a sealed copy, which I will put up for s...
Upgrade from Audioquest Lapis I agree. Diamond X3 is a significant upgrade from Lapis X3, and a great cable. I was using Lapis X3, Diamond X2 and Fidelity Research Silver Dragons in my system, and just upgraded (this weekend, in fact), to all Diamond X3 IC's. No comparison wha...
"Saudage" and the music of Brazil. Good post! Got to add Maria Bethania and Gal Costs (especially their duet on Sonhu Meu), Caetano Veloso, and Toquinho (awesome acoustic guitar artistry). And, for true "pop" with flair, Daniela Mercury can be a lot of fun to listen to, even more f...
Best single-malt Scotch... Lagavulin. The standard 16 year old is awesome, the 25 and 30 year old special bottlings I picked up in the UK even better. Like Laphroig, this Islay is very much an acquired taste, with an even more pronnounced iodine aftertaste. Macallan 25 ain'...
Linn/ tonearm cables I re-wired mine with Aq Emerald X3. Noticeable (but not vast) improvement in warmth/resolution. Plan to try the AQ Amazon in the Fall
Good tweaking tools to share Gerrym- Good! BTW, rumour has it that Mobie production has/will stop. Apparently priced too low to turn a profit. Not sure if MD has any stock. Delivery times were quite long late last year when I looked into buying one.
Speaker Polarity Testing I do not intend to plug an item I have for sale on the site...but if you REALLY want to be sure, the best way is to use the Sheffield Labs/LAX polarity tester and test track CD. Not only will it measure relative polarity, but it will also tell you... |
