Sibilance in recordings: your experience the same?
Lrsky - Yes I don't think it purely a microphone artifact.I don't know if it's magic but lots of people use de- essers to limit sibilance during the recording process. Psacanli - Unfortunately it's common that people don't pay attention to phase d...
external crossover recommendations
The best analog crossover in terms of pure sonics IMO is the Pass xvr1 although it's very expensive and does not allow ( obviously) for digital room correction like a DEQX digital unit does.
running full range or not full range...huh?
It depends. Don't listen to anyone who says that it's always better one way or the other. You have to try it both ways on your system in your room and give each way PLENTY of time for hundreds of minor adjustments. - Jim
Sibilance in recordings: your experience the same?
Actually sibilance is a REAL microphone artifact which is really on the recording. Eliminating it is best done by prevention. After that any strategy which limits it is doing so by smearing or attenuating the signal. This can be more pleasant to l...
JL Audio 113 sub without external crossover
I prefer running a pair of f112's using 12db slope with lowpass set at 35hz. Mains running full range ( -3 db@ 25hz) without crossover. This way subs fill in from below and also add some texture to kickdrum ( 60 - 90hz) while tapering off before m...
You're probably listening too loud
Mr T is right
which non ARC poweramp do you use with ARC REF 3
Gryphon Antileon Signature. Pure class A. Very good into low impedance speakers. Better bass control than tube amps.
Best Nancy Wilson CDs
Ditto Cannonball Adderley. Also "But beautiful" and "Something wonderful". - Jim
Tube Buffer
Another good use for a tube buffer is between a tube preamp ( relatively high output impedance) and a solid state amp with relative low input impedance. I use a fully balanced tube buffer between the second set of XLR outs on a ARC ref3 with 600 o...

ARC does not believe in upsampling.
rockport altair any informed opinions?
Thanks Holenneck. That makes sense. - Jim
rockport altair any informed opinions?
Holenneck, Check out the ultra audio Altair/Gotham review. In it he was able to get improved sound by positioning the Altairs for maximum imaging run full range and running two Gothams low passed @ 80 hz ( no crossover). Looking at the graphs the ...
Village Vanguard session with Bill Evans
Thanks Ghosthouse. Happy new year to you. - Jim
sealed vs vented subwoofers
Shadorne, check out Nelson pass's 11/1/08 artical on his website entitled " Audio, Distortion and Feedback." I think he's right when he says that preference for 2nd or 3rd order harmonic distortion is listener dependent. IMHO it's not so simple to...
Village Vanguard session with Bill Evans
Ghosthouse, I don't know to what extent subjectivism is important. It's probably pretty rare when something resonates with everyones conscienceness at the same and in the some way. I don't believe that art is purely objective and that all we need ...
