Most Influential American Musician of All Time?
If the question was " who was Americas most influential guitarist" then I would say Charlie Christian. Charlie died of TB in his 20's and had he lived I'm sure he would have been even more influential. Blues guitarists harken back to Robert Johnso...
Most Influential American Musician of All Time?
Louis Armstrong hands down. He and his peers created solo improvisation as we know it today and his vocal phrasing forever changed the way singers sing. There isn't ANYONE in popular western music outside of classical music that does not owe much ...
Acousctic Zen Sil. Ref. II and Absolute, anyone?
I've used matrix refII ($500), silver refII ($1,000), and Absolute($2,500) I.C.'s in all combinations. I think they are all excellent choices at their respective price point's. If you system seems "bright" to you use one or more matrix ref II's an...
What are the difference between CLASS A and PURE
Raul, Almost ALL SS " class A" amps are biased in that they produce class A output to a point and then switch to AB. True SS pure class A amps are the exception. - Jim
Live at the Blackhawk???
Great story, thanks.
Gryphon Antileon Sig Mono vs Ref One Mono
Johnpf4, Thanks for your input. I've never heard the MBL's so I couldn't comment. I absolutely love the REF 3 /Antileon Signature combo for the reasons you mentioned. I had a CJ preamp which was very lush. The REF 3 goes as far into the 'detailed ...
Rudy Van Gelder: Genius or just lucky?
I mostly agree. I've got tons of RVG remasters but many of the best recordings are not from RVG. To me the saxophone (trane etc.) tends to be too " in your face" and piano is typicaly under miked. OTOH cymbals and Miles muted trumpet is usually pr...
Gryphon Antileon Sig Mono vs Ref One Mono
I'm using an ARC Ref 3 with Antileon signature stereo amp and am very happy. I think in most real world situations the monos would add very little. The Ref 3 is VERY synegistic with the Gryphon run, of course, in a balanced set up. - Jim
McIntosh C1000 tube pre vs. ARC Ref 3?
Hantrax, Yes in a way I am just giving you a hard time as my opinion isn't worth all that much. However, I stand by my opinion that he ought to HEAR ( for the reasons above)them to decide for himself. Also and this might be a bit more controversia...
McIntosh C1000 tube pre vs. ARC Ref 3?
Hantrax, OMG the REVIEWERS give a " product of the year award" and based on THAT you believe something to be true " by a country mile". Thats fine for you but I think the responses to you are from thoughtful people who actually believe in hearing ...
Johnny Hartman with John Coltrane
Yes the JH/JC remaster along with being some of the most beautiful music is also one of the very best recordings of male voice and sax. They are miked/mixed perfectly where I can close my eyes and truly believe they are in the room. Especialy trac...
Preamplifier: Yes or NO ?
As to the SUBSTANCE of mrtennis's assertion :that a tubed pre might be helpful in decreasing digital fatigue due to the poor execution of most digital, there may be some truth in it. Assuming proper execution ( low noise from source component) and...
