Compare: Salk Sound, Silverline, Tyler, Zu
Matt and Dave: Both of you seem to be familiar with Salk products. I have a question about that line. The basic Veracity model is HT1, if one can afford it HT3 is clearly the flagship. However, the middle spot is muddled a bit: there is QW, and th...
The very best new/used under $3k for classical?
Bartokfan: Thanks for your post. Actually I am very happy with my Spendors, nothing wrong with them, so I am no hurry. Also, I have had these for 20+ years, and may keep the next ones equally long. So I am being very deliberate and slow about lear...
Can you help or do I have to get divorced?
Darn, I didn't notice the original post was from '02. My sympathies and best wishes to john1in2@san.rr.com .
Can you help or do I have to get divorced?
NO point throwing model #s at you in thsi situation.Make her a partner in this search. Look at and examine all the speakers together, you get to choose the sound, she the size and looks. There is bound to be something you both will agree on.
Am I missing something here?
If your original amp is good enough, which apparently it is, then you'd see extra power only during short peaks when it is called for. Most of the time your speakers are using only a few watts.
Speaker recommendations in the $3,500-$4,000 range
Clay: Forget the dealers and look to the audiophile community. We love one another's company, show off our gear, exchange opinions. See if there is a club in area. If not, start one. :) Otherwise, just spread the word, through A'gon and other such...

Chazzbo: No need to apologize, my comment about your writing style was meant as a friendly joke. It is a little difficult to read but well worth the trouble. I appreciated the review and look forward to reading your opinions in future as well.Just...
Salk HT3 vs VAS VR4jr
Jburidan: Great to hear about your experience. I have no doubt they are great speakers and better value than what "big" companies offer. But have you also had a chance to compare HT3's with comparable offerings from Tyler, Silverline, and Zu. That...
Speaker recommendations in the $3,500-$4,000 range
Chazzbo: Great review, but didn't you ever run into the concept of a paragraph break? :-)Clay: Now I have a better idea. Speakers will be 5' apart and about 7' in front of you. That rules out many big panel models. How important is bass extention?...
Anyone compare LS 3/5A Soliloquy SM 2A3, Spendor
I prefer Spendor S3/5 to the classic LS3/5a. Of course, neither would shake the house with organ notes.:) I have not heard Soliloquy's.
How Much Hiss Is Normal?
Swap the two speakers and see where the hiss goes. That will tell you if the spkeaker itself is to blame or amp (more likely). As others said, if you can't hear it from your normal position it is not a problem.
Speaker recommendations in the $3,500-$4,000 range
Many people suggest the one make or model they like, but I would watch this thread with interest to see if there is any consensus among those who have heard many contenders. I cannot make specific recommendations because I have not engaged in comp...
Daedalus DA-1: How Good Are They?
David12: Good luck, many here would be interested in hearing about your progress. Have you ruled out UK greats like ATC, Proac, Harbeth? Have you eliminated or not considered other contenders such as Salk, Living Voice?
25 year old polk 2.3's will I hear an improvement?
As you are satisfied enough with your speakers, there is no rush. Maybe you just feel out of touch with what has happened in the world of audio and are curious to get in once again. :) If so, that's what you should do, slowly. If you travel, see w...
salk sound HT3, Linbrook Sig, VMPS RM30
Ebonyvette: It seems strange that withot having heard any of these you have concluded that "VMPS may sound the best". :) Anyway, please post your progress. I owuld be curious what you discover or others advise.
