Help choosing Speakers for Rega Brio-R I had the same experience as Junglern with Rega R1s. I was running an original Brio and Silverline Minuets were a very good match. I've read that the RS1s are more refined, though, and speaker preference is absolutely a matter of taste.
A "pop" masterpiece... Brendan Benson, The Alternative to Love.
Best Rock Album in 2011 Haven't heard the new Bon Iver, it's on my list, but Wilco's The Whole Love is just a fabulous album. It didn't do much for me right away, but after a few listens, I was convinced. I actually liked the last couple of albums, but this one is miles ...
Which dac with this system? I've read good things about the Emotiva XDA-1. It's got balanced outputs, volume control, and a remote. I've also read positive reports on the Matrix Mini. The M-Audio doesn't have balanced outputs, but I imagine that it would be fine. For a bit m...
Best method to stream music into Quad 12L Active. It would be cheap and easy to run a Squeezebox Touch directly into the Quads. The analog outs on my Duet aren't bad at all, and the Touch is supposed to be better. The digital volume control seems fine to me, too. Not sure how you'd use active spe...
Cambridge S30 and Jolida 102b I wish I could say that this was the only time I sold something only to go back and buy it again (I think I'm on my third Creek headphone amp). I really sold the Minuets only because I couldn't justify them for background listening in my office wh...
Cambridge S30 and Jolida 102b I had Cambridge S30s in my office system for a couple of years. They're excellent speakers and a great deal. I replaced them with Silverline Minuets, and then replaced the Minuets with another pair of S30s. Don't get me wrong, the Minuets are bett...
will different lengths affect sound No, but you might imagine they will--which, if you have a good imagination, will make the difference real!
Which direction should I go? What are your current speakers? You may well be able to make a nice improvement in your main room system for a lot less than $2K. Many people swear by Totem speakers with Rega electronics, and Rega's own speakers are excellent. Second-hand Totem A...
How fast is the Oppo BDP-93? Thanks for the responses. My DVD player is on its way out, so I'm thinking Blu-ray. My friends' Blu-ray players are super slow, even with DVDs. And, if I go for the Oppo, I might want to use it for CDs as well. But only if it's reasonably quick.
Budget Speakers for a small living room I'll second the Cambridge S30 recommendation. I had them in my office system and found that they compared very well with much more expensive speakers. Silverline Minuets, for example (at nearly three times the price), were better, but not much bet...
Looking at simple set-up for iMac to preamp Try a Behringer UCA202 (usb out from the iMac, connect via analog RCA interconnects to the integrated). I'm using one in my office, and it's shockingly good for the money (less than 30 bucks).
Should I try to improve speakers at $2000.00 range I tried a number of speakers, at a lower price point than yours, but ended up with a pair of Snell K/IIs. Liked them so much, I grabbed a pair of J/IIs off Ebay and couldn't be happier. Older isn't necessarily better, but sometimes old can be very...
small speaker for office I've used Silverline Minuets in my office and can recommend them -- excellent and amazingly full sounding. Surprisingly, the Cambridge Audio S30 is not far behind, and for a fraction of the price. A great deal new and a true bargain used.
Upgrade my CD player or buy a DAC? I second Griffithds's recommendation: Benchmark DAC1. If you're patient, you can find one second-hand for $600. If you don't like it, you can sell it on without a problem. It's a fantastic piece of equipment. |
