Speakers for Rega Brio R and/or Nad 326bee
I had Silverline Minuets and preferred them to Rega R1s (not the RS1s). Better integrated sound and the R1s were too sharp on top (although the new tweeter in the RS is supposed to be better). I think they're hard to beat for the money.
Big changes ... down the road
Sounds like your gamble is paying off! Putting the $ you'd spend on equipment into music is always a good idea ...
Outstanding Service from Logitech
I had outstanding phone support, too, years ago when I was first setting up my SB Duet. Unlike the phone company, whose tech support tried to be helpful but seemed to know nothing about how to set up the hardware they provide, Logitech support is ...
Rega Apollo R
If you like the look and ergonomics of the Apollo, it would make sense to get a DAC and use it as a transport. With your budget, you'd have your pick of a number of top-flight DACs (Berkeley, Weiss, etc.).
Configuring my system.. component opinions.
Once you have a preamp, I'd recommend changing your speakers. Your room is big, and I'm guessing that your small floorstanders are getting lost in it. You have enough power to drive just about anything. I'd be tempted to try Shahinian Obelisks. I ...
Who has seen Bon Iver on this new tour?
I didn't think much of the first album when I first heard it, but it really grew on me. I like the second (and the new songs were great live, stripped of sometimes overdone production), but not as much as the first.
Who has seen Bon Iver on this new tour?
I saw them a couple of weeks ago, and I agree. They were terrific.
a solid state amp that is recessed in the treble
Although descriptions of Naim amps often suggest the opposite, as I understand it, they are engineered to roll off the top end. Some even describe them as tube-like.
Best rock cover songs, list your favorites
Rufus Wainwright's cover of "Across the Universe" is superb (it's a bonus track on the US release of Poses). Marshall Crenshaw's cover of Grant Hart's "2541" is great (so is the original).
Help me complete a system - Gaps here
I'd try a Benchmark DAC1. Excellent DAC, superb headphone amp. They run $600-650 used. If it's not for you, no problem selling it on.
Looking for an integrated w/ a more forward sound
On your list, the one I've heard most often described as "forward" is the Roksan. Exposure is a good idea. Cyrus and Naim might be worth checking out, too.
What to replace a Rotel RCD 971 with
I can recommend a Naim CD5x. If I didn't love what it does, especially with HDCDs, I'd have gone 100% streaming by now.
Nuforce oppo extreme bdp-93 and "the regions"
The new Oppo players require a hardware mod to be region free.
Which sub 200 usd DAC if using an integrated amp?
Many will tell you that the chip used is less important than the implementation. I haven't seen any reviews of the Audioengine DAC, but the HRT is very well regarded. Another excellent, very low-cost alternative, IMHO, is the Behringer UCA202 (whi...
To DAC or not to DAC
I haven't heard the XDA-1 but have heard very good things about it. My bet is that the options you're considering might sound different rather than better (and maybe not that different). I'd go for a cheaper transport (Cambridge Audio 350C or Mara...
