another arm/cart question (long post) Yes the OC9 really improved my Dual 1229. I have been curious about the art series and wondered how much better they were than OC9.
another arm/cart question (long post) I forgot to add that the arm has brand new, polished bronze knife edge bearings. I’ve read that these bearings can introduce chatter with certain cartridges, and that is why I opted for the fluid dampening kit if that helps
The mystery of good acoustics I’ll keep it short. I spent 40K on electronics then spent 1500 on room treatments. Had I treated the room first, I could have saved a lot of money. True story
Horn speakers for vintage sound Altec A5 is what you need. 3 way Hiraga crossovers with a super tweeter. Altec 1505, 288 mid drivers and 1505 horns. I use 7.5 watts tube power and you can’t be in the same room at 50% volume. I augment with horn loaded subs. You could probably b...
I treated my room ! I’m gonna order some more panels and do my ceiling !!
I treated my room ! @theaudiotweak do you have any photos of what you built ?
I treated my room ! @steakster the coffee table is a subwoofer. It’s the GSG devastator. It was set up nearfield because I had lousy bass. Well no more lol. And to be honest it’s my wife’s laundry folding table so it’s usually covered in clothes minimizing reflection...
I treated my room ! I agree and I didn’t mention that I haven’t done anything with the ceiling yet. I think there could be so improvement there especially since I use multicell horns. I’m sure they are beaming at the ceiling !
I treated my room ! In my room the whole back wall is rough textured brick and mortar with my album racks against the wall. I did not treat the areas directly behind me. I’m feeling like it has good diffusion. I’ve yet to measure decay time but it’s not completely de...
I treated my room ! https://share.icloud.com/photos/0ddvlxE5EoFnfQc6WLPCVFKnQ I don’t know if this link will work but this is half of the room before the drapes went up
The response for REL regarding subwoofers I’m using a GSG Devastator with my Altec A5 setup. It’s a 21” driver in a semi horn style enclosure. It’s powered by a Behringer 3000 dsp amp and I’m actually using the sub amp at about 75% on the gain and 35% on my Preamp volume and they blend we...
Still happily using vintage gear? I have mostly vintage gear. A pair of Altec A5s, a pair of Altec model 19s, and a pair of Altec model 15s. I still have a Kenwood M1D amplifier. Turntables are a Thorens TD 318, and a Dual 1229. The McIntosh MC 7100 is getting old too. My preamp ...
Questions about Mcintosh tube amp pairing with Altecs That’s an Avenue I had not considered. Decware was not even on my radar. Thanks for sharing your experience. I will research it !! Adrian
Questions about Mcintosh tube amp pairing with Altecs @jasonbourne52 I got both of your messages in my email account but one of them doesn’t show up here for some reason. I think you hit the nail on the head about it being a headphone amp. That’s what I was feeling but didn’t know how to express it. ...
Questions about Mcintosh tube amp pairing with Altecs I think the MC 30s would be awesome. Finding a clean pair may be a slight challenge versus the stereo amplifiers but they do come up. The tube rectifiers are what I like about them. Also, I know my system has some other limitations that will be ad... |
