Mono record sounds like stereo To be honest I had never heard, nor been interested in Mono. I just never had exposure. Now I’m really intrigued. All I need is another rabbit hole !! It will be interesting to take it a step further with a suitable arm and cart. I really apprec...
Mono record sounds like stereo Well I swapped one end of the RCAs and of course it moved the horn section to the opposite speaker. I played it on my other table and it was balanced left to right so I realized it was the SPU cartridge contributing. I switched the preamp to Mono...
Mono record sounds like stereo Oh dang. It never occurred to me to swap the RCAs as a quick test. I’m going to try that now. TBH I’m not even sure if my Preamp has a mono setting. I’m going to check that as well. Thank you !
Mono record sounds like stereo @elliotbnewcombjr. I have the option of adding a 12” arm to one of my tables. I’m using a Sumiko blackbird and an SPU on 9” arms currently. If I added the 12” arm, would it be better to run the mono cart on it and leave the stereo cart on the 9”...
Mono record sounds like stereo The tiny horns were made by Markus Klug. They are for 1” compression drivers. I’m using Faital HF10AK tweeters. My crossovers are a Hiraga inspired 3 way design built by Pete Riggle. It helps the Altecs up top and you can flip a switch and turn th...
Mono record sounds like stereo I’m listening on an Altec A5 horn system and I was so impressed with the sound quality of this mono record. Thank you for the response. I thought I was crazy or my preamp was broken LOL
If you want lame advice DON'T do this! I spent about 30K on equipment which was substantial since I’m a blue collar worker. It took 8 years to get all my gear. When I moved I decided to try room treatments so I bought about $2k worth of auralex bass traps and acoustic tiles. I brought...
Poll: Most impactful component My ears are only 51 years old but I can only hear to 13k. My 35yo wife can’t stand the super tweeters I added to our 2 way Altec horn system because she can hear 19k. I have a toggle switch that takes the tweeters out of the system when she listen...
Poll: Most impactful component Oh I forgot room treatment. I bought approx 100 Auralex tiles and 24 bass traps. Honestly this did more than any component. Actually it did more than all of my components. I know there is still some room correction to gain and I only spent abou...
Poll: Most impactful component It was the Preamp for me. I had a solid system and when I upgraded preamps it was staggering. I had spent about 10k on speakers and 10k on a turntable and truthfully only had midfi amplification so I had to choose. I flipped a coin and upgraded th...
Under my tower speakers -- Isoacoustics Gaia, other options? I’m using Gaia footers on an SVS PB 16 ultra on wood floors. I’m also using them on a heavy turntable. I’m very pleased with them. I thought they were a bargain at their price. I haven’t used anything more expensive to compare them though. They di...
another arm/cart question (long post) This is all great information. I find that it’s not easy to search the threads when you don’t know what questions you are to be asking. Thank you all for contributing!
another arm/cart question (long post) Yes I read about the .12 output of the 7, and wondered what that would equate to in real world application. I believe my McIntosh has 60db gain, with the ability of going up 6 more db in the trim settings. The lowest cart I have now is the 0C9 at ...
another arm/cart question (long post) Opinions on the art9xA vs art9xI ? Shibata vs special line contact ? Most of my records are new or newer. Many 180g. I don’t have enough experience hearing various profiles to have a preference 😵💫
another arm/cart question (long post) Thank you for the responses. I believe I’ll spend a little more time researching the art series. The OC9 definitely has a great bass and I can’t imagine that improving. It was also very easy to set up and didn’t seem picky. |
