Cardas Golden Presence - anyone familiar?
the presence is listed below the golden reference on the cardas website but according to the prices on fatwyre.com, the presence is significantly less expensive than the golden cross ($700/m vs $870/m). Therefore, I'm assuming the sound is closer ...
BAT SS power amps?
The mention of rolled off frequencies with the VK-500 is actually quite attractive to me considering my very bright B&W dome tweeters (CDM 9 NT) and my choice of recording material (indie/underground). At the risk of sounding "shallow", my onl...
BAT SS power amps?
Given that I prefer a warmer sound (after owning sterile sounding electronics such as bryston and musical fidelity)I think I may prefer the sound of an older 500 to the newer 250. Thanks Blindjim.
BAT SS power amps?
How would you desrcibe the sound of the VK500? How does it compate to newer models? Thanks Larry
Tube pre-amps: turn off when not in use?
I was blissfully unaware of the cost of the tubes. It will cost me roughly $500-1,000/year (Canadian) to keep my pre running?
Recommendations for a sub $600 power strip?
You might be able to find a used Shunyata Hydra 6 on here for $600-$650. I did - very pleased with the results
Tube pre-amps: turn off when not in use?
Thanks for your replies. I do about 4-5 hours of listening a day so maybe switching off with use would be wise (or not?). For those who use tube pre with all-transistor based components (CDP, pwer amp), do you just turn off the tube pre while leav...
ARC Pre + which SS amp?
Thanks for all your responses. However, I think I may have found a deal on a BAT vk-31se which can't be passed up. My brief search for an ARC pre has ended.
From Bryston to Pass X250.5 ?
I am also looking to make the jump from a 3B ST to an x250.
Power Conditioners to reduce Sibilance
The bi-wire suggestion has come up in comments regarding my system and is now something I am considering. I use XLO ultra 6 and the bi-wire version (XLO ultra 12) sells for $50/foot in Canada. I may have to look into it but that is a little steep ...
Power Conditioners to reduce Sibilance
Thanks again for all your responses. I toed-in the speakers such that they cross before the sweet spot and much of the brightness and sibilance have been reduced but not eliminated. I have plans to add some canvas prints behind the speakers in ord...
Power Conditioners to reduce Sibilance
The reason why I had originally thought of power conditioners as a solution was due to the fact that I entered 'sibilance' as a audiogon search item. A number of threads alluded to poor AC as a generator of this problem and I started this to read ...
Power Conditioners to reduce Sibilance
Thanks for all the replys. My room is actually an acoustic nightmare and am looking to add some canvas prints to tame things down a little. I have fiddled with toe-in but not to the point where they cross in front of the sweet spot so I shall also...
