Plinius SA-250 vs McIntosh MC402
I have the MC402 and it is everything I could want in a power amp. However, I have heard very good things about the Plinius as well. Both being very powerful and musical at the same time. You may want to include the Pass X250.5 to your shortlist
Counterfeit Electronics??
I have heard about this with cables (particularly Cardas) but not electronics!!. I would generally try to avoid buying high-end audio products on ebay to start. You have great selection and mostly reliable sellers right here on Audiogon.
McIntosh MC402 Burn in Period ? Very Impressed
I purchased an MC402 here on Audiogon so I assumed that no burn-in would be required. However, I was very underwhelmed with the sound initially. After roughly one week, the amp really started to open up and is now everything I would want in a powe...
speaker cable for bass
I agree with Ryder - XLO cables, even their cheaper speaker cables such as the Ultra 6, have tremendous bass performance.
Tube Rolling on BAT Preamplifiers
Hi Canadiandog - I would assume that BAT would use the best tubes for the 52SE but I'm just re-iterating what I read in a post from my "6H30" thread. See below:01-22-08: AirshopVictor is currently using the NOS tubes only in the REX, all other pre...
Tube Rolling on BAT Preamplifiers
I support the opinion of Rgurney. I started a similar thread a couple weeks ago in this section simply titled "6H30" if you want to refer to that. I am going to be picking up 2 pairs of the 6H30-DR tube for my VK-31SE from Conus Audio (highly reco...

Mac's BAD MATCH for 802D's?
I use a MC402 with a pair of B&W CDM 9NT (replaced by the 700 series). I am currently using the 8ohm tap. I recall trying the 4 ohm tap when I first received the amp and found the sound was much more dynamically restrained. Perhaps the CDM ser...
How to make sound less detailed with warmth?
Get some Cardas Cross or Golden Cross cables.
Love it, or Hate it ? (wood trim)
The new Accuphase reference 2-chasis SACD player has wood trim - looks awful. Cheapens the look of what is probably a world class player. http://www.accuphase.com/model/dp-800.htmlHowever, as mentioned earlier, Tenor and Pathos do a nice job of in...
Pass X-250.5 or McIntosh MC402?
I use a MC402 with B&W CDM9NT. The Mac was the first time I have ever heard a balanced sound from my speakers - previously sounded too bright and edgy. I can't imagine a more perfect amp for my system.
Which Cardas cable is the warmest?
I was using neutral reference ICs as well and was a little unhappy about the results. Switched to golden cross and haven't looked back.
Bryston 5B THX or non THX ?
No difference sonically. The THX has a 12 volt trigger, that's it. I had 3b st thx which is the same as a regular 3b st.
Cardas Golden Presence - anyone familiar?
Thanks Sdecker - I too am looking for new speaker cables and was considering going with the GC since I have been very happy with the ICs. Do you think that an all GC cabled system would be too much of a warm sound?
Tube pre + Pass power amp
Thanks John - I actually have done as you suggested with very informative responses. However, the results were mixed so I'm hoping to gain a little more information this way.
