I was hoping for something much cheaper than $300, but it's good to know this particular model has proven reliable. Also, what is it that I'm supposed to be looking for? Is wear and tear obvious when examining a stylus up-close?
How to check original vs. reissue?
Thank you all for your input, especially Jarraa for the link; the site is a great resource. Regarding the record I asked about, I actually was lucky enough to find the answer on eBay. A seller posted a very detailed description of it, including in...
Pink Floyd The Wall--Which vinyl?
I have three copies of the album, including the reissue, and I agree that it's hard to find a bad sounding pressing of The Wall. The reissue sounds quite good, and I think it's well worth the sticker price, but I do prefer the original pressings. ...
VPI Customer Service
I see. So you're talking about the periphery ring, correct? I guess I didn't realize it was a "clamp." I've always thought of it as simply periphery ring. That aside, yes, VPI customer service is outstanding.
VPI Customer Service
I didn't know VPI had a stainless steel clamp. I thought they had the standard delrin clamp and a stainless steel center weight. Is this something new?
Vinyl Heaven : Lyra Atlas on a Durand Talea 2
Isn't it more or less a $20,000 combo? I'd expect it to sound good, good heavens. Btw, can you elaborate on the crappy reissue of WYWH, please? I have it, and I agree it does not equal the quality of the original pressing, but did not find it "cra...

Duped again
I think some of the criticism stems from the fact that the original pressings of Floyd albums sound quite amazing so the bar was set very high for reissues from the beginning. I think these particular reissues don't sound bad by any means (especia...
Manley Chinook
Both are set via dip switches located on the back of the unit so if you have an easy access while you play your records, then you can probably adjust the values. However, it seems to me unless you have a preamp with a remote or a knob that allows ...
It Might Get Load - documentary
I just finished watching this documentary, piecemeal to be honest, over the past week. I'm not sure I understand what the point of it was. To discuss "life choices that drove them to become musicians" according to my cable. That's it? Every musici...

Kbarkamian,The reissue is a really nice package with the original poster, postcard and sleeve. That alone is worth $30 in my opinion. I think it's a no-brainer if you don't own a great-sounding original pressing. As my luck (or lack thereof) would...

KbarkamianHas anyone heard the new Wish You Were Here LP? Thoughts?I bought the CD; no complaints as its the only copy I own. I'd like it on vinyl, as I don't have one. So it's not like I'm buying yet another copy of the same old album. Is the viny...

Goatwuss,Seriously? That's what started this entire thread - the OP "trying" the vinyl reissue of The Wall. C'mon man.

Elizabeth,Vinyl does wear out, you know. I think it is not uncommon for audiophiles to own more than one copy of their favorite albums, especially those that are out of print. I try to draw the line at three...I'd rather have one too many than fin...
