Help with speaker choice
Thank you all very much for your advice and suggestions. I'm going to travel to LA next Saturday to audition the VMPS so I should have a better idea how they stack up against the more conventional design. Also, I actually did hear the Gibbon 9 fro...
My findings on Magico V2.....what now?
Reading the responses in this thread, I'm rather mystified why perhaps one of the most basic truths when it comes to speakers has not been put forward as an explanation, or at least mentioned. One of the first things I learned as I was entering th...
VPI Scout Hum
I listened to a record at my dealer's once on a VPI/Transfiguration/CJ/Soundsmith phono/Vandersteen system worth probably about $30,000 and the sound blew me away. But once the record ended the hum/hiss was equally shocking at the high volume leve...
Granite under wood for better isolation?
Schipo,That is the most awesome audiophile story I've ever heard. The fact that I used to live in Manhattan makes it even better.
Replace VPI TNT rubber belt with nylon thread
I own a VPI Scout and my dealer recommended replacing the rubber belt with a silk thread when I was buying it. Since I don't have a speed controller, would you say it'd be pointless to do it and better to stick with the rubber belt?
VTF and VTA- Constant or not?
Every other record I've purchased since I got into analog heavily about half a year ago has been visibly warped. (I returned first few but soon gave up since it seems to be the norm, not the exception, sadly. At least for jazz records. But that's ...
returning vinyl for warpage?
Interesting. Perhaps you should patent it.
returning vinyl for warpage?
I couldn't agree more with Fightingwords' post. In the past few months I've returned quite a few of those "high-quality audiophile pressings" that cost over $30 but were either warped, had a visible crystal residue, or sounded distorted in part of...
Are Dust Covers a MUST
I'm sure Gingko products are top quality but charging $300 for a piece of acrylic is absurd. Got mine custom made for $75 including cutouts for the tonearm that protrudes beyond the plinth of my Scout slightly when resting. The shop owner told me ...
New TT-- new problem
I tried to post this as a separate thread but it was considered a duplicate and flagged by moderators so I have to post it here. Here are the 2 more questions I have for Scout owners and those in the know:1. The tube of my JMW-9T extends beyond th...
New TT-- new problem
All cables have capacitance, whether cheap or expensive, don't they? So it would effectively increase the capacitance of the cable+phono preamp combo vs. cart's load. In this case, preamp has a load of 100 pF plus whatever the internal wiring and ...
New TT-- new problem
Viridian and Cjlover--thanks for the great insight; I'll follow your advice as it only makes sense. As far as going to my dealer, I'd prefer to do as much as I can on my own at this point and learn in the process. They've been great and very accom...
New TT-- new problem
Thank you all for excellent advice. I will lose the mat, even though it definitely helped with the Music Hall. Also, a maple cutting board from Michigan Maple and Isoblocks from Mapleshade are on their way to help offset my iron and glass rack's p...
