Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Indieroehre, The Audio Technica Atn 12s would give you a Shibata stylus on the Precept body. Should be good.

Raul, Whatever terminology you chose is fine with me. Thanks for the response. You answered what I was asking.I guess I am up for another adventure with King Raul and the Knights of the Turntable. What is the wing speed of an unladen swallow?

Raul, I also would like to know the answer to Lewm's question. Just for reference, The NRG is better, to you, than the PRG (previous reference generation), or just another very good cartridge? My MM/Mi list is getting longer, actually way past rid...
Joseph Audio RM22XL
I agree with Soix. When I auditioned the 22xl and the 25xl, I had to have that extra bass foundation of the 25, but if your room is small or you don't need the extra bass the 22xl is great. Listen to both, you may like the 22xl better.Btw, you wil...
Upgrading cartridge used or new?
With my addiction out for all to see, I only can find 43, but I refuse to look in any more drawers.;)
Newbie building modest system ...what amp?
Hello Mswobo, Do you have a old receiver or something to listen to music with while you work at your system? Old speakers? If you have a receiver then buy speakers. if you have some old speakers get the amp first. If you have nothing now it will no...
Upgrading cartridge used or new?
I forgot to mention most of my purchases were 20 to 30 year old MM/MI cartridges, which most safe people will say not to purchase due to age of the suspension. BTW, the Technics 205 did have a bad suspension upon arrival and an Azden 50pl suspensi...
Upgrading cartridge used or new?
Like Manitunc, I have purchased many, more than 50, used cartridges over the past few years and only one was defective. My vinyl sounds as good today as then. My experience is positive. It really depends on YOUR personal risk tolerance. Some can't ...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Hi Timeltel, Your welcome. Great to see you enjoying your new turntable and glad you are enjoying the 980. I don't think you can overuse the cartridge as I don't think it was even broke in. Only about 10 hrs. Send it home when your finished with i...

Nandric, Please do not confuse stupidity with bravery ! I did it for the Borg.Btw, I have been married way to long for taunting to work. ;)
Speaker cables for Joseph Audio Rm25xl
All the cables mentioned should be an improvement. When I bought my 25xl's they were very flat and had no highs. The dealer who had just delivered them, went to his car and brought in the cheapest Synergistics speaker cables made, and the differenc...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Hello Raul, After listening to and comparing the Stanton 980HZS to the 881s, it is clear to me that the 980 was better than the 881. It has the same sound but better all around. I don't know if it's the small step in #'s or the stylus. I have sent...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
I will directly compare the Stanton 980 verses the Stanton 881s, as Nandric's accusations may be true, since I was going by memory on the 980 being better than the 881s. As I said I am a big fan of the 881 and perhaps did not remember it being thi...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Nandric, I found on Audioreviews where the Thorens TD 147 Jubilee came with the Stanton 981HZS in 1983. This may give you a further avenue to explore.
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Hello Nandric, Another possibility is that you have a unique dog. If Don or Raul would check their Stanton 981 HZS calibrated specs. , we will know. The chart I am referencing says it is for both the 980/981 carts. A Stanton made for Thorens with ...
