Pass Then vs. Pass Now
audphile1,     What is your point now? Just drop it. Move on. Grow up.
Pass Then vs. Pass Now
Much appreciated. I will look into these.
Pass Then vs. Pass Now
Point taken
Pass Then vs. Pass Now
There is something to be said of Nelson Pass as a person. He reminds me of the Grateful Dead, who allowed themselves to be recorded by anyone during their concerts. That is remarkable by any standard. In the same way, he shares his knowledge of a...
Pass Then vs. Pass Now
>>>gfys now??? You should run for office.      My observations are based on actually owning multiple products designed by Pass. Most of them I liked, but also most of them could have had better build quality inside.       I have seen ...
Low buzzing through speaks
I don't know if there a more irritating noise than hum unless it is static. I can even live with a little hiss. This is too common of a problem in audio. The cure or reduction of it can be anything from changing a cable or two, to rewiring the hou...
To bolt Standmounts to stands, or not?
In my case, I built a set of speakers that weighed in at about 40 pounds each. They sat atop heavy stands that probably weighed about the same. In spite of that, I wasn't totally comfortable setting the speakers one the stands by themselves. I fou...
Pass Then vs. Pass Now
audphile1,  Excellent response, thank you. Nothing is perfect, and in spite of the intent, the camera moves around too much to get a really focused look at certain things. I know, I am being picky.   Like I said earlier, the chassis is really im...
Pass Then vs. Pass Now
Wow. You are right... about the chassis. I will just keep googling until someone shows the guts inside. I've seen some pretty sorrowful crap inside a beautiful chassis, but I am betting that Nelson does way better than that.
Sansui AU-717
I recapped a PS Audio power plant some years ago. Yah sure it worked fine and the caps were not bulging. They were however very dry. In fact, you could shake them and they sounded like baby rattles!!! So this nonsense of "it looks good to me" or "...
Pass Then vs. Pass Now
So many years ago, I bought a Threshold power amp, and it was an 'S' series, maybe 400 model? The point that I will make here is that even back then, I was surprised to see how ancient it looked with old brown carbon resistors, thin circuit boards...
Experienced only: What have you done with room correction?
Erik,   My experience with room correction via Velodyne SMS1 can be mostly a good thing if your subs and sats have a chance of being married. If there is no match with those to begin with, then it is same as being shot in the eye with a toothpick...
Ultrasonic record cleaners
It is really something, the formulas and recipes that sounded like a good idea at the time. Best left in this case to a chemist who understands the chemical makeup of that which is to be cleaned, using the safest and most effective products.  The...
Anyone Still Using Zerodust
I haven't seen reference to ultrasonic cleaners used for stylus cleaning. Any thoughts?
Pleasurably better, not measurably better
bhvf,     Only recently, I showed a tool to a couple of people who had no real interest or even understanding of it. Their reaction was one of 'why would you spend that kind of money on something so basic?' Same reason I don't understand you buy...
