Hotmail-Is the g4 the aforementioned laptop? If so, try running on battery powerdownload "process wizard" or the equivalent and use it to renice (re prioritize) you processes.Turn spotlight offmake sure that music files are not on the same drive a...
computer isolation
Urban legend? I do not know if it will make a difference, but most all electronics are sensitive to vibrations as they have capacitors aka condensers- as in condenser microphones amongst other things.Crossovers are micro phonic as well, just less ...
Sound diffusion panels--do they reduce brightness?
Get that ottoman out'a there for starters!
Benchmark DAC-1 Get The Most Out Of Your DAC-1
Great units, and hard to beat for the money. They are very sensitive to power and power cords too. One will be well rewarded experimenting with one. Lastly, I leave mine set on USB with cable attached to a CPU in so that it stays on avoiding standby.
40 songs on 2 records?
If you compress the dynamics it could fit even more!
PC Audio and the Behringer DEQ 2496
Although I typically agree with Elizabeth, I do not on this one. I agree that glass is noticeably better than plastic, but I have never experienced toslink better coax or AES-EBU. Furthermore, they are the same signal, toslink just has additional ...
PC Audio and the Behringer DEQ 2496
The first thing that comes to mind is the m2tech EVO for async USB>AES. There is also probably a SPDIF>AES-EBU adapter options.
Mac sound quality
Eq off is in iTunes preferences. The iMac does not sound as good a s a mini. I have both.I'll save the debate though, because I doubt that is the problem. Your iMac should trounce a mid level CD player. It is possible the DAC is an issue, but you ...
Cambridge Dacmagic? Real improvmt or hype?
As stated, glass toslink if the way to go if you must use toslink. A cheap plastic toslink cable can cripple even high end DACs that presumably are immune to jitter. Time and time again I hear people pushing toslink around here. My experience and ...
why do some turntables have multiple tonearms?
Each set up will have a distinct "signature". Great if you can afford it!
Are my ears just fooling me?
Hard to say w/o knowing what you have had. It could be as simple as a room issue. Or something w/o a crossover in the midrange perhaps.
Thiel and Halo JC1's speaker cables
It is not all about speaker gauge. I use Supra Sword, and it was a big step up from the regular oval 8's running a pair of Magnepan 1.6qr.
Is there a qulaity DAC that has USB and coaxial.
Many DACs have both inputs. You should state a budget...
Squeezebox Touch: jitter thru wi-fi?
Direct Async USB and Firewire are generally the preferred connections, although there are some new network players too.For a hi resolution system, I would avoid wireless. For streaming background music and such, it is great.
confused on audio file formats
I think the squeeze box likes FLAC to make matters more confusing. Jax2 uses SB IIRC. There are Mac players that do use FLAC. I use iTunes as a database only for the player AyreWave. I have no empirical evidence, but I question wireless transmissi...
