If your whole system costs $40,000....
For roughly 12-percent of $40,000, you can put together a music server that will rival CD playback systems costing as much as 50-percent of your $40,000 system ($20,000). For less than $5,000, you can purchase a new comprehensive high-end music se...
Probably a dumb DAC question
Mwilliams:PS Audio is offering their excellent Perfect Wave DAC (PWD) for $2,000 along with the trade-in of any used DAC - old or cheap. This is for certain a true bargain. I highly recommend visiting their website for details.I pair my PWD with s...
The Animals in High Def...Anyone have any feedback
Thanks Shadrone. I went ahead and downloaded it the other night. I agree that the sound is very good (for 40+ year old recordings). I believe many of the earlier songs were originally recorded in mono and they do have that characteristic "60's" so...
Probably a dumb DAC question
Typically, DACs and tubes mate very well together, since digital is known to be “less-than-warm” sounding. If you disclose what your DAC budget is, then you will undoubtedly receive some great suggestions.
The Animals in High Def...Anyone have any feedback
Thanks Rich. The Redbook version sounds very thin (i.e.: very "tinny" with overloads of treble and weak bass). I wasn't sure if this is due to the age of the recordings and the way they were recorded back in the late 60's, or if the Redbook CD vers...
Hi- Res download newbie

Hi- Res download newbie
Your PW DAC (Bridge?) should play all of your FLAC files. If you're still having issues you need to contact Alex at PS Audio...or Dennis. Worse case scenario now, is that you might encounter some "micro-skips" only on 24/192 FLAC files, but even t...

Which High Res releases are worth buying?
Alas, I can’t give a hearty thumbs-up to the recent HDTracks hi-res release of The Doobie Brothers, “Captain and Me.” I nearly forgot what a great recoding this is. Unfortunately, while the dynamics are there, the detail and clarity are there in a...

Which High Res releases are worth buying?
This is a great thread and I do hope "we" can get some good suggestions here, because I agree that many of the 24/96 releases leave much to be desired.I must agree that the Blue Coast Records stuff is always very good (some of the best). I especia...
