Blue Light Lasers???

The audio specifications have not been finalized. There are two competing formats Blu ray and DVD HD. DVD players will be available later this year. Due to the increased capacity of the blue laser, HD video and high res multi-cahnnel audio will be possible on the same disc. This high res DVD could kill SACD and DVD Audio.

Blue light lasers use a shorter wavelength than do standard lasers, I believe. A shorter wavelength laser can then read smaller pits/lands on an optical disc, allowing for the disc to have more overall data capacity.

Higher capacity can then be utilized for higher-resolution audio/video.
