A while back Garfish mentioned he lked the idea of getting to know some of us better. As no one has started a thread like this before I will take the plunge.I have been involved in and read many heated exchanges here in AudioGon.I hope no one attacks me for this thread saying "who cares about you, this is audio" Anyway,Im 45 and live in W.N.Y.I have never been married but have a music loving 11 year old daughter who lives with me.I have been a nurse for 20 years. Before that I was a Navy Corpsman for several years.I recently became engaged (first time) to a beautiful 30 year old music loving woman. At my age a 30 year old is a keeper and I have never been happier!! My turn , I'm 26 yrs old, an Electronic Tradesman , working as an Electronics Tester for BAE Systems in Adelaide, Australia. I'm single with no kids. I've been into music for most of my life, thanks Ma! Pretty much I like all music except Country, and (c)rap. I've only been into this Audiophile thing for about 2 years. Even then I don't think I would be classed as an Audiophile, more a bloke who enjoys his music and learning ways to improve my listening pleasure. I guess mostly I'm a DIY person (speakerwise). I'm also into Roadbikes , Cars (and car audio yeh I Know it sounds crappy just loud) and seeing live bands( mostly South OZ metal acts, my girlfriend is dragging me out of the shed to see them). I'm looking to upgrade my Amp's and CD player soonish in the search for perfect Audio, But will I find it? I might find my perfect Audio sound but I bet some of you out there would hear it and want to tweak it to bits. Being Australian I think I'm easily satisfied(or is that amused). Thats who I am. Tim.
Hey Tim.warhurst@ nice to know you Aussies are there. I know that New Zeland and Australia are about as close as New york and L.A. but your a hell of a lot closer than Minneapolis to the Kiwi's. Try out the Plinus amps or even the integrated amp they have. I had the SA100 prior to my Aloia, really clean class A or AB and not at all electronic sound. I think the have some of the best bang for the buck out there. Good luck, and thanks for a great Olympics! J.D.
Treljia,David99...I work in the boring world of pigment production, studied Chemistry at college in general terms(Physical,Organic,Inorganic). My real expertise is in popular music, specialised subject- Dylan.D99 yeah well the girlfriend is pretty supported of the hi-fi because she knows I love music so much..sometimes she even hears a difference when I change/upgrade....actually I've just had a really stressful day being messed about by a guy who was supposed to buy my old amps...it's took the edge off my new purchase which I've been listening to and now have to abandon testing due to it being 23:30 here..oh well there's always tomorrow.. Regards, Ben
Hi Bencampbell, specialised subject-Dylan, Me too. Maybe one of us should start a Dylan thread. Gotta go, theres smoke pouring out of a box car door. P.S. Don't follow leaders watch the parking meters. Nice to meet you Ben.
Personally I'm glad that David99 had the nerve to start this potentially contentious thread, and as he mentioned me in it, I feel a small amount of joint responsibility for it too. I think the thread has been highly successful, extremely interesting, and very worthwhile. So, I sincerely hope no one pollutes it with pettiness and negativity. I have really enjoyed getting to know other Audiogon members, and as far as I'm concerned, this is one of the most valuable threads of the year. Thanks David. Cheers and Happy holidays to all. Craig.
