Same Dance but New Step

I am using a VPI SuperScoutmaster/New style uni-pivot arm/ rim drive/ Classic Platter/etc......with an Ortofon Winfield.   Last week or so, I heard a grinding sound, and the stylus would skip across the record.   All seemed fine with the turntable, so I sent the cartridge to Soundsmith for a good look.   It needed a new stylus which was put on, got the cartridge back and was as careful as I could be in setup.   I have a Mint for overhang, a Fozgometer for azimuth and Costco glasses.   The result is a very much better analogue system.....the same cartridge and table, expert repair by Soundsmith, but very careful setup which is delivering better sound.   I encourage all to check your alignments and enjoy the results.

Sounds like the grinding sound had nothing to do with alignment.  What was the problem as identified by SS?

Nice outcome stringreen and another data point for me to avoid vinyl. 🤣
