Selling gear made to be a set

Hello, I’ve recently decided to go all in on digital as well as trying to simplify my physical life, so I’m thinking of listing my Marantz KI Ruby amp and SACD player on here to sell. Before I do, I wanted to get some opinions on whether I should sell them individually or list them as the set. Ultimately, I don’t want to really deal with selling one without the other, but I’m not sure how buyers feel about that. I don’t think I would have a problem buying one or the other if I already had a piece I planned to keep. For example, if I had settled on a CD player, then I wouldn’t have a problem just buying the amp. My reasoning I think, is more for sale ability. What are your all‘s thoughts?

If you list them as a set, you'll probably limit your potential pool of buyers; so, I'd list them separately. However, I'd put a note in each ad that you will offer a discount to anyone who buys both items.

Unless you are in need of cash, I would put the gear in storage just to make sure going purely streaming is your final solution.   I own every piece of gear (including the boxes and manuals) all the way back to my first system in 1977.  I have 5 different listening rooms with various states of Vintage Gear or themes, and the rest is in storage or rotates in the rooms.  I'm glad I've never parted with any gear.

My wife...not so happy.

In general, separate most items. Your two items should sell together. They were designed to complement each other.

Thanks for all the responses and advice. I’m not planning on streaming only, I have a second CD player. I have an Arcom CDS27 and I was thinking of buying the SA30, that way I could stream and have a surplus of digital options, as well as bust out the CD collection, which I will never part with. I’m selling my record player on Audiogon currently, so I’m just wanting to purge a bit. I’m also trying to figure out the best way to sell my record collection.

I have no justification for having two systems at this point. I’m trying to get my priorities right. For example, I’m going to sell one of my omega watches as well. I’m trying to tell myself that I still have student loans, I have no business having two watches, or two stereo systems, etc. Also trying to get back to that 13 year old in me that used to listen to Realistic brand products and have the best time in the world, even though it wasn’t high-end. Not that the Arcam set up would be cheap or anything… I don’t even know what I’m trying to say ha ha!

I think the issue I have is the scarcity of my Marantz products makes me feel like that comes with a price tag, but in reality that may not be the case so who knows.
