Denafrips FPGA Firmware Update

In case there are any Denafrips DAC owners out there that are not aware of the FPGA Firmware Update, here's the link:

I did the update on my Ares II earlier today and am currently enjoying the results.  It is definitely an improvement without question.

@mceljo while trying to install my firmware (a different issue) it just added to my frustrations while I was trying to install the firmware. Fortunately I have a couple of spare PC's. Whenever I try diy on any of my electronics it is very difficult for me at best, and often turns to shit. I don't know why the firmware installation didn't work but I'm glad that I at least brick didn't my Denafrips ares. The firmware version that i have is 3.06, so it has missed a couple of firmware updates since this new one came out, I'm not sure if I would need to install each update one at a time. Anyway thanks for asking and I'm going to try it again when my nerves calm down and hope for the best. Thanks for asking.

Greetings all. I am now at 90 hours with the FPGA 3.3 update on my Venus II

The new code has resulted in my sonic experience being positively increased by an enormous margin. Nothing about the changes are subtle. Stage depth, height, and horizontal boundaries are now incredible. I have experienced better channel separation, depth of field, and dark black backgrounds between the notes. Timbre is incredible. Pace and timing are right on. Bass has improved vastly with lovely mid-range and extended highs. Nothing harsh or strident, nothing booming. After this update I feel the sound has a maturity that I had not realized was lacking.

I have seen many comments that are skeptical of a software update requiring break in time. Please search FPGA wiki for information on this powerful technology functions (I was unable to attach the link).

Cheers, and good listening. -

Thanks sat7. Great to know it works out well for your VII and I will definitely give it a try when the update is available for my T+ in mid May :)

I finally was able to do the firmware update on my denafrips ares and it's a relief that I was able to without bricking my dac. I was hoping for a bigger improvement than it is though. I think it (dac) has a little more depth, and it didn't cost me anything so I'll take it. Thank you Alvin for being so helpful.

Updated my Ares II this weekend with the 12th anniversary FPGA code with no issues.  The sound improvement is noticeable right away.  I will sit and listen to NOS a little to compare to previous version.  I still prefer the slow filter compared to the fast.  I'll give it some time to burn in and do some more critical listening.  Thanks to Vinshine for making this update possible.
