I bought my Sony Playstation 2 DVD remote with IR sensor from a Game Stop (same as EB Games) for $5.00. It was used and needed a little cleanup, but it's been very dependable. It works very well with Model SCPH-1001.

eBay has some Sony-brand Playstation 2 DVD remotes with IR sensors listed, but some of these come from China and are cheap counterfeits that go bad after a couple months. Beware of where they ship from.
Have been listening to my "new" PS1. Am very happy, uncoloured sound, not tiring to listen to... the sound has a lot of integrity, the highs lows and mid range work well together. It sounds better than my SCD-777es does on redbook although i miss the extra "air" of the sacd format.

It is an exaggeration to say this offers more fidelity than say a Wadia 861 which I have heard. The Wadia had more texture in the detail. But I have not heard a $1500 or even $2000 that sounds better.

I think it is cool to go against the grain and have a PS1 rather than something with brush aluminum plates... it adds to my maverick image with my friends!

I think it also looks "good" sitting on the same shelf as thousands of dollars worth of high-end gear...for the same reason! Perhaps the knowledge and perversity of using a 15 year old child's toy as a bonafide front-end source adds to its surprisingly good sound.
Reviving this in hopes someone out there has experience with troubleshooting. Last night it worked fine. Tonight it doesn't read any cd's -- they just continually spin inside. I thought perhaps it was a laser issue but when I turned the unit off and on again, there was no "boot up" sound. So now wondering if it's something else? Any assistance is appreciated
