Accuphase A65 vs ...

Hello everyone,

I have the opportunity to purchase Accuphase A65 2nd hand and I have some questions :

1. How does it compare to other models such as the A70,A75 or maybe the older ones like the A50v that have nothing but great reviews,
Unfortunately not the case with the A65.

?

2. For those who use the amp how does it handles the base, and what’s your general impression?

3.is it a fast sounding amplifier?

4. should I buy the e650 (same price as the A65) which is the newer version integrated amplifier, will it outperform the A65?

Please stay on topic and I only want Accuphase
not other brands.

My speakers are Wilson WP7.

thank you:)

Not specifically A65, but had A200s (for 7yrs) which was from same cluster/released time as A65 I believe.

1) Compared to latest A250s, I noticed a little better bass and resolution (perhaps from lower noise floor) of the A250s. The improvements over A200s are real, but slight imo (more evolutionary), not warranting a jump if one already has the A200s unless trying to squeeze that last bit of say 5% from system.

2) Bass ime, is adequately tight, deep, full (midbass) and well defined, but not the last word in tautness, as well—speed.

3) With its renown house sound of slightly laid back smooth relax presentation, so is its PRAT. Definitely not ‘Swiss’ fast, but enough boogie factor to get one involved in most music.

4) My guess, A65 will be the better performer if planning to spend some more time and money to build around on, otherwise, the the E650 will still immensely satisfy.

*And ime, Accuphase power rating is pretty conservative. Take A200s rated at 100w/pc, oftentimes from my meter reading they cruised at peaks of 250-300wrms without breaking a sweat. So I imagine the 60w/pc A65 could do 125-150w peaks with no problem either.

Not directly relevant, but hope these help some.

Great answer thank you very much bvdiman.
my only concern is I listen to a lot of electronic music which requires bass and speed, but I really love the sound of class A amps, I would buy a parasound jc1+( I really like the parasound sound) but the ratings are only 25w in class A which is not enough.
