Node 2i Coax Out

So... I bought a node 2i for its Roon streamer capabilities. I want to use it with my external DAC (schiit Gungnir Multibit). As I’m researching I’m reading some disappointing stuff... 
can the node 2i really only output 24/96 over coax?!!!
 Should I return this?
Why wouldn’t it just pass whatever data was sent to it if it’s bypassing the DAC? 

Please advise!

I do want to clearly state that the Bluesound Node 2i sounds amazing with 16/44 Apple Lossless via AirPlay 2, which is how I’m using it.  This is a world class music player.

I’m using the optical (Toslink) output connected to a MiniDSP 2x4 HD.  This digital sounrce sounds better (to me) than my Linn Sondek CD12 and 47 Laboratory Shigaraki CD transport and DAC.  The Node 2i sounds great into the Shigaraki DAC, but the MiniDSP gives me some powerful “tuning tools”.  Either way, the Node 2i is an excellent digital source/transport.

I was all fired up for nothing. Y’all know how it is... you spend a bunch of money then you have buyers remorse. Then you listen to your tunes and it’s all better. 
Then you go buy more stuff !

Change the power cable it gets better.Using the Node 2i on an upgraded Yggdrasil.Remarkable sound for the cost and wireless.
