Zu Soul Superfly

I just ordered a pair of the new Zu speakers on a whim. I was going to wait for information, but the fact that they threw in the free superfly upgrades to the first 30 people got me.

From a similar thread it sounds like some of you guys have heard the speaker despite information only being released today. I'm wondering what you can share about it?

Also, I am really hoping it works with a Firstwatt F1 amplifier. Can anyone comment as to that? I know the Druid's and Essences worked OK.

In a year you should be able to pick them up for $1300. Maybe a little more $$ for the Superfly, which I read makes them sound like they should.

Resale??? All the emails--Are these the Superfly version??? If not I'll give you $900...
I'm glad I don't own the Zu commodity. Things are not looking good resale wise for the Essence or Druid owner. Glad I lost the $600 on the Essence while I could.

The Soul gal on the website looks like an angry perfume model. Can the five preferred reviewers "Pump up the jam?" Hope so!
One of the amps I used on the Essence was an 8 watt Luxman EL84. It powered them very well, though this amp with the ribbons on the Essence made them bright. I agree with Phil that the Essence was a mistake.

Although I am critical of Zu because I had a bad experience with the Essence I admit that I took a blind chance on the drop drawer praise by strageon ebane and a few other reviewers. I had my doubts but am glad they sold well and many people like them.

Anyone planning on a Mastersound amp on the Zu's? Talk about a value speaker with a seriously undervalued used market amp! I had the 24 watt 300BPSE and found it to be an amazing integrated. I'm thinking about getting a second system going, and this looks like a fun match.
I've found battery gear to be dull, boring. Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of low power and have the off-grid bug in me. That said there is something missing in the less than 3k components I've heard including RWA paired with Devore Super 8's. I listened less.

Just wanted to mention that.
David_ten, It's interesting that you find they have more soul with pentode mode over triode. I had a VAC amp that switched between, and my preference was always triode with the Essence, Devore super 8, 9 and the various Verity speakers I tried it with.

Maybe by more soul you are liking a more top to bottom and overall powerful experience? Are the mids better in triode or do you still prefer the pentode? I'm curious about how you find the texture in vocals and striking and sustain of chords between the two.

Anyway, sounds like you are enjoying them. Happy listening!
Says $3495 when I looked. Cosmic carbon is in short supply and the next space shuttle doesn't launch till November. When they get more cosmic carbon the price will go down.
I'm thinking of spending $xyz on a second system. I see the Superfly being good at $1500 PP. Is it better than that and what is the price point of the Essence?

People paid $5K for the Essence and it sucked and the latest price for the Essence is $1899 new. At this rate a competitive price for the Soul is like...$600?

Just trying to figure it out. Any information about pricing and long term value is appreciated.
