Zu Soul Superfly

I just ordered a pair of the new Zu speakers on a whim. I was going to wait for information, but the fact that they threw in the free superfly upgrades to the first 30 people got me.

From a similar thread it sounds like some of you guys have heard the speaker despite information only being released today. I'm wondering what you can share about it?

Also, I am really hoping it works with a Firstwatt F1 amplifier. Can anyone comment as to that? I know the Druid's and Essences worked OK.

The First Watt M2 may be a better match for Soul.

I've compared the F1, J2, and M2 on 98dB 6 ohm Audio Note speakers; the M2 is more tube like and has "drive" that the F1 lacks. Even at 10WPC, Soul is underpowered using F1.

IMO
YMMV

Having as much experience with Zu products and probably more than anybody posting here, it is unrealistic for any Zu speaker to perform optimally with a flea power SET/PSET amp be it 45, 50, PX-25, or 2A3.

Every Zu speaker, including models with a self contained subwoofer system, requires at least 15WPC; some need more.

No question they can be driven with single digit power but nowhere near their full capability.

IMO
YMMV

You'd have to hear the difference; words are insufficient. However, at 10WPC, the Soul is underpowered.

BTW, PRaT is a joke.
>>To me the Meridian sounded kinda slow and dead while the Berendsen was alive and nimble.,,

And to the next guy it may be the reverse so he wouldn't be tapping his toes would he? So "PRaT" to him would have an entirely different meaning.

You made my point. Thank you

PRaT is a joke. But so are musical, organic et. al.

IMO
YMMV
I thinks it's a waste of time to debate and/or discuss meaningless/nebulous terms such as PRaT, organic, musical, etc.

They are purely subjective and listener dependent.

Thanks and good luck.

The $1500 for the Omen is the European price (I'm almost sure).<<

No, that is not correct.

The introductory price is $999 until 11/10/10.

Then the price increases to $1500.

if my understanding is correct and they employ the same loading with the same driver/super tweeter<<

It is not correct.

They employ different full range drivers. The SSF is a newly developed full range driver whereas Omen uses the Druid Mk4/08 full range driver.
According to an email from Sean, Druid and Omen share the same FRD.

Whether the nomenclature on the spec sheet has changed is another issue.

I believe his email to be factual.
Regarding First Watt F1, IMO 10WPC is insufficient for any Zu speaker.

YMMV
