Yamaha A-S801 no output

Just bought a used Yamaha A-S801.  Hooked it up to Yamaha CD-S2000 via RCA cables with Furutech locking connectors and Sonus Faber Lumina III speakers to the A speaker pair of connectors on the back of the '801.  The spades were too big so got some spade-to-banana adapters and went that route.  Still nothing.  Replaced the speaker cables with simple 14-gauge wire, still nothing.  I know the CD player works and the 801 powers up as expected.  Tried switching various combinations of the A-B-A+B speaker switch.  Nothing.  Tried using both high and low impedance slider.  Nothing.  Spoke with the seller and he said it worked fine when he sent it to me.  His feedback is uniformly excellent so I have no reason to disbelieve him.  No signs of damage to the box or the unit itself (which is immaculate).  The owners manual is silent on the subject, simply advising me to turn up the volume (why didn't I think of that).

Any suggestions?

Thanks very much!

Two minor points: The 801 transformer does get (slightly) warm ,so the amp is working; I am not using the stock power cord but an Anticables Level 3 power cord.  This should not matter but if it caused some kind of thermal shutdown then the 801 power light would blink but it is a steady glow.

Shot (s) in the dark -

1) any chance the mute button has been engaged either on the remote or the unit itself?

Thanks for the thought but turning up the volume defeats the mute function on the remote.  Tried that early on; no joy.

Do the 801s have jumpers in place between the high and low frequency connectors?

It seems the CD output is not getting to the receiver. Try using the stock (or another pair of) RCA cables. Sometimes these expensive connectors fall short just enough not to make contact. Also give another look at where the RCA’s are plugged into to confirm it’s CD (analog in) and not PCM... and the input selector agrees.

A long shot may be an an intput relay has failed. If the CD player has a digital out try testing it with the PCM input to the receiver.

Two Suggestions:

1)  Ensure the INPUT selector on the A-S801 is set to the correct input (e.g., “CD”).

2)  Verify the SPEAKERS selector on the A-S801 is set to “A” or “A+B” (not “Off”).

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.  I changed the CD input from 'CD' on the back of the amp to Line 1 on the amp.  Switched the input selector on the amp from CD to Line 1 and Voila: music.  Have no idea why this worked but it did.
