wyred4sound Sonos Port - garbled noise

I just fired up my old W4S ZP90 Roon endpoint and it still working.

I talked to W4S and they said they still do the mods on the old ZP90s.  YOu can pick those things up used for nearly nothing on used market.  Make great Roon endpoints especially with the W4S mod.  Only knock is the unecessary DSP as Roon downsamples the stream cause it thinks thats what the ZP wants then ZP takes it back up to 96 if thats the mod you have.

According to W4S it looks to be an update by Sonos that is causing the issue.  For those that do not yet have the issue, suggest you hold off on any automatic updates if possible.  W4S looking into a solution.

i have two in our second home, they both work fine

Strange - it looks to directly be related to the volume.  Below 25% the sound is fine, above that, it starts to get progressively more garbled until it is completely white noise at 100%.  I'm sure there is a digital explanation for this?  Bit dropping?

Thanks Jbuhl - yes, it is doing it with both wired and wireless.  Tried a couple of different DAC's too to narrow down the issue.

Is it doing it both on wifi and wired?   I had a regular ZP 90 network wifi card die but wired portion still works fine.  Got a old ZP90 with W4S mode still going strong after all these years.  

Also you could open a case with Sonos and see if they can run a trace.  Wont be able to help you with it of course but might be able to identify the issue.
