John-Great to have you here, it seems that you and I(among most other members) share the same interests! If you are looking for more possible local audiophiles check out the Where RU????? thread, it has helped me meet a few. Look forward to seeing more of your posts. Tim |
Hi everyone by the looks of things I'm a younger audiophile, 19 and spending every penny earned on my stereo. I am currently single and I am a co-owner of a garage (not your typical hi-fi enthusiast) I graduated high school when I was 16 and went right to work (to busy listening to music for college, sorry). I know my ears are still developing and try to make my stereo the best I can step by step and one day hope to be like the rest of you, whom I would like to thank for all of your techinical support I have recieved from everyone. More specifics I live in upstate New York (no, not a correctional facility) just a little south of Albany, I have been into high end audio since I was 15. I try to be like a sponge and absorb as much as possible but all of you know so much more about this stuff then do I but I am learning quickly. My other interest besides this is women(obviosly) and cars. |
Well answering David99's post I consider myself a 'newcomer' and feel obligated to let everyone know what's going on with my system. The best component in my system is my speakers, Avalon Eclipse. I have a Rotel RB-990BX amp powering them now, but I also use sometimes some heavily modified adcom GFA-565's. I realize neither amp does justice to the speakers but I have plans of replacing them as soon as I have made a decision. I also have a Acurus Act 3 pre-amp which is also on it's way out the door in exchange of a BAT pre-amp. I use a Rega plannet 2000 CD player and think I am going to purchase a turn table within the year. I listen mostly to Jazz and some rock and a little bit of techno. And I also am a big cables guy (I really think it makes a difference, I am a believer) so I use TEKline cables throughout the stereo, all pure silver wire, if there are any questions on my gear feel free to coment here our send me an e-mail I would be glad to answer any questions( and if you e-mail me NO one will rate your post!) Thank you and happy listening. |
Dave your getting old, "country'aint too bad", when you give in its all over buddy! J/K. Good for you, I how ever can't manage to maintain a girlfriend that can tolerate my "ways", lol. Well have to get together eventually, when is mario having his next shindig? Just sent my ticket in from the last safe driving award I was lucky enough to recieve going down there. As the tire turns, so does life, its been a crazy year, hopefully with better to come in the future. If I can live the rest of my life with out another 9-11-01 I would be happy.
Cheers everyone and happy listening, Tim |
Welcome aboard Bishopwill, sounds as though you have had a very vicssitudes time. But your in great company, and music is always there for ya. ~Tim |
Steve-It sounds like it is going to be very pleasurable having you here, nice to meet you. Just so you know me and Gustav Mahlar are real tight, we went to school together :) FWIW I am one of the many "thread jesters" here, all kidding aside great to have you contributing here. Tim |
hey this is cool I am not angry and such, but young, naive/impressionable :)
Tim |
Buckingham- Glad to see another younger member here(between you and me the old folks think they own the place, we need to set the record straight:) I am also a tubey sort of guy....well for the moment anyway(the exception would be an accuphase A50v), I just was never happy with the sound of solid state in my system, but now with a tube amp and a ss pre, it is great! Are you into vinyl by any chance? I find that all younger audiophiles are strictly digital(as is the case with me), I'll admit is sounds better but I can't afford it at the moment, between the gear and I would need all new software it would be difficult at the moment. Look forward to talking with you some more, enjoy your addiction! Tim |
Brulee you know the saying "love like youth is wasted on the young", very true. |
Spitfire-Don't think you can try and use the classic "trust me I'm a lawyer" line ;) other then that welcome! Do those old bikes have the same electical charachter(some would call it problems but I am being optimistic) that older brit. cars do? Jontiffin-I have no wity remarks for you, other then welcome aboard. |
Spitfire-at least you shouldn't have my favorite problem with older british cars, when taking a left turn and you hit a small bump the horn starts blaring until you disconnect it! I have seen it happen more times, it is a regular thing to have happen with them, I doubt that is a concern on the bikes-good for you the horn thing is really annoying |
Kelly-what do you mean by that? I have heard amany times before that garnish is a road-block on the road to bliss :)
All kidding aside welcome BOB!

Mark- There is a member here who lives near me-though we have never met- and he is into recording, I don't know what his moniker is but I do have his email address, if you want to get in touch with him send me an email I'll give you his email address. He really knows his stuff, in fact I get sort of intimidated when talking to him he know so much more about that stuff then I do! Glad to have another technical fellow particpating.
~Tim |
Bmccormick-Well you are in good company, I think we are all over zealous with our "hobby". And you better be carful with that Rap remark, I always catch hell for saying I don't like it, but when I say I listen to smooth jazz(aka instrumental pop) everyone gives me hell, guess you just can't win!!!
~Tim |
Good idea Dave, I'll split the cost with you! I was wondering what happened to this thread, new guys and gals, spill your guts. ~Tim |
Rapogee- Welcome to the insanity, sounds like you do have a keeper! Where in NJ are you moving? audio is pretty strong in the northern part of the state, i.e. you will have a lot of company :) |
Dave- You know I am with you buddy!! It's just amazing how much life has changed for some of the early poster's on this thread, a real trip down memory lane- and that's can be damn scary. Hope every one's doing well and they are even closer to audio nirvana since there first post here. Happy Holidays :o) ~Tim |
I know what your up to Dave, your trying to be the 500th, sneaky. :o) If its you that wins your getting Barry Manilow or something! lol |
Fathom7- Simple guy? 2 kids? I don't see how that is possible! Don't kids make everything an adventure? I don't have any and am not planning for any at this time, but I can only imagine life becomes anything but simple. :) In any case its nice to have you "jump start" this thread and let us know a little about you and your system, there are a number of people here on the 'gon who live in the south cali. area. You should try to track some of them down, its always nice to meet others who are local to you who share the same wackiness :^) |
Jayctoy- We have chatted via emails before, its nice to read a little about who you are and how you got there:) When ever we wrote to each other before it was just the facts, talking audio and that's it- its nice to see there's a lot more to you. And of course thanks for the ego stroke, like any one else I appreciate it as much as the next man/woman.
Happy Listening. |
I am sure some of you have heard of the website myspace.com, I joined in an effort to help a friend launch his website and have found it is great getting to know more about people and groups of people... In any case I would encourage you to join if you are interested in knowing more about fellow audiophiles who participate in this community. I've even took the liberty of making an official audiogon group so we will be able to track each other down. Just add http://groups.myspace.com/audiogon as your group and you'll find other audiogoner's for right now I am the only one and one is the lonliest number :) This is myspace for those who are not familiar with what it is. For those in doubt of this sort of thing, just give it a shot its free and you can delete it if it you wish. I've got in touch with people I haven't talked to in years, I am able to keep in touch with those I don't see often and its easy.... the one tip I will offer is don't use it during peak hours when you have 8+ million people on any site at one time it slows things down a bit, in particular when your creating a profile. Let's see if this flies. |
