The THX headphone amp is getting a lot of good reviews:
Who is using a desktop headphone rig?
I have a nice pair of Sundara headphones that I don’t get to use enough. They stay with my big system for when I need to be quiet. When I could use them most and would enjoy them most is at my desk. I need a cheap little set up there.
I almost snagged an iFi Zen DAC V2, but then I thought I’d see if there’s something better or more interesting for $200-$300. Just looking for a simple integrated amp with an onboard USB DAC.
Anything other than the iFi that is a one-box solution for <$300 worth looking at?
Warm side of neutral is preferred with the Sundaras.
I use the Schitt HEL 2.0 for my laptop/desktop w/ a pair of Sennheiser HD650s and it's a good little setup for my use. When I'm working from home or gaming on the laptop I strictly use headphones and the Schitt was worth the $200. I like the tactile quality of the volume knob, the DAC is really quite good and it's relatively portable. Separate power and sound inputs as well. |
The Schiit Asgard is your best bet if you’re looking for something a little on the warm side. |
