Which Streamer/Dac

Has anybody compared the Simaudio 280d to the Innous Mini MK3.

Hi, I'm a newbie but read this forum everyday and find it very informative. Looking forward to your thoughts.

Thank you.

Sounds like you are on the right path. Sim makes very well built quality components. While I would purchase a separate DAC and streamer.

I would not worry about a ripper. You can always do it on a PC… although these days there is less and less reason to do it. A great streamer and DAC will negate the need for any stored files.

Getting the best sound quality / quality components will provide the best long termed solution. So, I would get the Sim. I have owned several SIM Moon products.

Two different animals. The moon is only a DAC streamer were as the Innuos has a CD ripper. I imagine you would want to go with the innuos so you could rip your CDs. Did notice that the moon was pretty much twice the price. So there is that issue. you probably could go up in Innuos product line and price match products.

My system consists of:

Audio Research Ls2 Mk2 B preamp, 2 Adcom GFA 555 amplifiers, Monitor Audio Studio speakers, 2 10" non powered subs, Apple Mac Pro computer, Rolls SX95 crossover,  and  Sony 200 disc CD player. At this point in my journey I am looking for a streamer/dac to replace computer. I will eventually replace speakers and amplifiers as my budget allows.

What is the rest of your equipment? This is necessary and it would be really helpful to see your system. There is a place under your ID to create your virtual system.

My rule of thumb is that the streamer and the DAC should be at the same investment level as your preamp and amp. If you are building a system over time then separates make much more sense than combo units.
