In one of the earlier threads reference was made to omni directional speakers sounding better due to the wide dispersion and that is the key to their signature. Obviously this effects required room dimensions, is wide dispersion the way to go.
Find out whether you like omni type speakers, cheaply. Parts Express has a close out of the xbox Spherex speakers. I have the original xbox spherex system and it is amazing. I think you can get a pair for $50.
