which power cable and USB cable for my Innous Zenith Mk3?

had a chance to grab a used  Zenith MK3 at a crazy good price

this thing kind of looks and feels cheapish  but no worries, not unexpected and did not buy it to look good in a rack

Im getting the impression it would benefit from a good power cord and USB cable

would like to keep each under $500

any recommendations from Zenith owners would be appreciated

I have a Cardas and Nordost blue USB. Everyone I’ve a/b’d them for agrees that the Nordost sounds better. Power cables can be more subjective. Shunyata is a safe beybet.

I have no experience with the Zenith—although I have ordered a Stream 1, but I have found Ice Age Audio power cables to be excellent products.  I cannot say that they “transformed my system to a higher plane,” but they are well built and both of my Odyssey mono bloc amplifiers and both of my Rhythmik subs are doing a great job of providing sound of excellent quality with them.  And, … they are reasonably priced and made here in the USA.

I have a Zenith mk3 and I agree the build is not what I’d like. It looks nice enough from a distance though. And the sound is so good that I don’t mind the build so much.

A few months ago I started experimenting with digital to digital converters, to convert USB to AES/EBU. I find that at least with my particular DAC (ModWright Elyse) the AES/EBU input notably much better than USB. Tried a few DDCs and ended up with a Weiss INT204 that I love.

I am using Veritas Cables Praesto for power and a Veritas Nexum A for AES/EBU, along with their Connexa for ethernet. I intend to add their Audax USB when it is back in stock. At the moment I'm just using an older Wireworld USB that is probably a bottleneck. It seems like the Zenith mk3 responds well to cable upgrades so I'm happy with the results.

I have also tried Ice Age Audio power cables and found them to be excellent products.

My two cents is that a lot of the differences with cables and power cables is noticeable immediately and then, after a bit, you can't remember the difference. In other words, the differences are slight so the questions are how much you want to spend to get slight improvements and is your system revealing enough to warrant the expenses.

So when I've done improvements in cables and power cords, I either find a great dealer like Ice Age and also Pine Tree that were both mentioned above who give great stuff at reasonable prices or I look for used products.
