@willgolf There are numerous forums that meet my needs, including this one. As has been mentioned here before, the mods at WBF are quick to ban folk for the slightest thing, plus the owners are exceptionally supercilious. Given the ongoing bickering and arguing between members who have contributed funds to the site ( whom the mods magically seem to ignore), plus the dearth of interesting threads, there really is nothing there that most anybody would be interested in. YMMV.
whatsbestforum - what's going on
I thought I could reduce my presence here and participate elsewhere so I registered on this site called whatsbestforum. First it looked harmless. I did not read the about section.
I made one comment, a speaker recommendation - did not name or mention anyone - just posted a link to a speaker site and I was immediately banned. The site went into an endless loop, with the you are banned message. I can't log off or view anything, the only way I can view it is if I start another private browser. On top of that, a few hours later, the message changed to "Your IP address has been banned." Like I am some kind of criminal to be kept away with a restraining order and pepper spray.
I wonder if it's an exclusive site or a cult, and if anyone from here is a successful member over there. The about us section is truly disturbing. I am not taking it personally, but it does bother me of course.

@daveyf - You are entitled to your own opinion, however, you are not entitled to your own set of facts. If the WBF wasn’t the place for you, that’s all fine and dandy. We wish you the best in finding a place you are happy with. But I will mention that you have more than double posts there than you do here, over the course of 9 years, so the WBF obviously served a purpose for you at one point in time. You remind me of someone who gets married and posts on social media that she is the most beautiful, caring and loving wife a man could ever desire. Then you get a divorce and there is a complete 180. Instantly, she was always the devil and the world must now know. Tom |
IMHO WBF is the most dysfunctional forum. They have three moderators who collectively must come to a consensus on banning, pulling posts, and time outs. In spite of this, or more likely because of this, their highest profile members have left the site. Those are facts, not speculation. Years without banning or moderation is not a success, it is a failure. Undermoderating is just as damaging to the flow of a forum as overmoderating. In this case, when moderation was ultimately required, it resulted in members leaving. To think otherwise is revisionist history. And as mentioned, the owners are quite active on the site and one is an audio dealer, and the other formerly was. Not that this is all bad, as insiders can often bring unique insight to the forums, and in this case, it is all out in the open. The quorum thing simply does not work for moderation, IMHO and YMMV. |
@viridian +1. The number of former members who used to contribute valuable information to the WBF has dropped down so precipitously that really those that are left are now nothing more than a group of shills either trying to sell product, or a core of folk who will simply argue for the sake of arguing. Dysfunctional is a good description. @treitz3 You have no idea of the facts, why would you, you get all of your information from the two owners who you report to. You are right on one thing though, I used to be a contributing ( which I now very much regret) member; that is until one of the owners decided he needed to follow blindly the acerbic guru that he brought to the site (who has apparently also left, or finally been banned?) and to demonstrate his ego and supercilious nature to all. |
Davey, I respect your opinion, but can’t agree with it as applies to the posters there. I think many of them are enthusiasts, just as they are here. Our own Mike L and manufacturer Atmasphere are both active on that site along with many others. Subjectively, and I am speculating here, they also seem to have a larger contingent of international members, which certainly broadens the perspective, but can also lead to miscommunication as English is not a first language for some. There is much knowledge to be gained at the site, but just as here, one must sift the wheat from the chaff. |
