Audio Technica ATVM95E. The least expensive Grado is now $125.
New Turntable.
This may be a really fun alternative. Lacks the 78 speed that some of the others have, which would take it off the table for me, but most won’t care. I would not use a radical cut stylus on any turntable that does not have a completely adjustable...
Krell, MBL, Levinson, et al... What if 50% off?
Young folks are consuming audio in a very different way than their parents, and grandparents, do. I do not see a broad acceptance of component audio coming back into vogue. It will remain a diminishing niche market. And IMHO ARC is no longer a pr...
Phono Amp Spec’s
I don’t think you can use the kAB calculator to determine the overload margins as this is specific to your phono pre. However, if I plug in your specific figures it yields an optimal gain of 50 db, and if you go to the chart at the very bottom, th...

Nice phono! Wouldn’t the maximum input voltage listed in the Accuphase lit be the point just below overload? Says 5.7mV at 64db gain. 20db above 1mV would be 10mV. Perhaps the KAB cartridge calculator will be of help, there is also a general char...

The first link is to a Canadian retailer. The price is in Canadian dollars, presumably to make the number all the more outrageous. The second ad is in the US in, wait for it, US dollars. Do the currency conversion and Shazam they are roughly the s...

Don: Agree with all the theory you are profering. And 20db overload is the accepted figure, more better, of course.  But if we can agree that both implementations are imperfect, we are left with what distortions you can best tolerate, the possib...

Actually, it's called capitalism, but agree with the sentiment.

Don, sorry for your challenges. So the first list refers to the four gain settings of your phono stage and the overload margins for each one. The second set has an asterisk, but you don't provide the info attached to it.  At any rate the sensiti...

Danish made, the OP wasn’t able to spell the name correctly through his grief. If you want to look them up the name is Ansuz not Asunz, as it is spelled at the top of the page.

I appreciate the OP posting this on multiple forums. It’s important to save folks from their own dark impulses and to tell them how to spend your money, and he’s good at it. LOL, those cables have European plugs on them anyway, so those of us in t...
just wanted to share my fix for making my speakers cat and grand kid proof!
No, no, you have it backwards. Leave the speakers as they are and wrap the grand kids and cats in that stuff.
The difference between tubes and solid state that I am finding
IMHO, in this hobby there is a tendency to project from the specific to the general. So we hear a difference in the Mac between tube mode and solid state mode and we project that difference onto all tube vs. solid state. No, all that is learned is...
EAR Phonobox = HORRIBLE
First thing that I said, and Lew said, so great!  No vitriol Lew, you are a great gent!
