whatsbestforum - what's going on

I thought I could reduce my presence here and participate elsewhere so I registered on this site called whatsbestforum. First it looked harmless. I did not read the about section.

I made one comment, a speaker recommendation - did not name or mention anyone - just posted a link to a speaker site and I was immediately banned. The site went into an endless loop, with the you are banned message. I can't log off or view anything, the only way I can view it is if I start another private browser. On top of that, a few hours later, the message changed to "Your IP address has been banned."  Like I am some kind of criminal to be kept away with a restraining order and pepper spray.

I wonder if it's an exclusive site or a cult, and if anyone from here is a successful member over there. The about us section is truly disturbing. I am not taking it personally, but it does bother me of course.

When I first started my Audiophile journey many years ago, I learned about the Audiogon website.  I utilized it daily with much interest in people's ideas.  However, I found too many comments from caustic people, comments made without experience with the product, or slamming manufacturers without knowing the full background.  I had to have a thread I started removed to give audiophiles a review of a high-end DAC.  I was criticized for discussing a $ 50,000 DAC when all I was trying to do was share my viewpoint.

About 6 years ago, I discovered WBF, and I am super happy that I did.  The WBF forum members have taught me a great deal about audio, and I genuinely respect their opinions.  I now have friendships from all around the world.  I have even purchased many components without ever hearing them based on recommendations from WBF forum members.

The way you can communicate on WBF is far superior to Audiogon.  Audiogon is more focused on selling used equipment.  They both serve a purpose.

@willgolf  Just ask one of the owners at WBF for a recommendation as to what he uses for gear isolation...he will be happy to sell you ( at a very high price) a footer that he reps.

Your review 6 years ago of the $50K DAC..which is now a boat anchor in today's world. What's that going for price wise now???

WBF serves a purpose all right, to be a soap box for its owners to push gear they are repping ( without always disclosing that fact) and to garner advertising dollars for the owners. Nothing more.

@daveyf

I'm sorry you didn't have a good experience with WBF.  I have asked multiple questions on audio components, including ISOLATION FOOTERS, and never once was I solicited to buy from a dealer, manufacturer, or individual representative. To answer your strange question - $65k.  It is a great boat anchor, as you call it.  I hope you can find a forum that meets your needs.

@willgolf  There are numerous forums that meet my needs, including this one. As has been mentioned here before, the mods at WBF are quick to ban folk for the slightest thing, plus the owners are exceptionally supercilious. Given the ongoing bickering and arguing between members who have contributed funds to the site ( whom the mods magically seem to ignore), plus the dearth of interesting threads, there really is nothing there that most anybody would be interested in. YMMV.

@daveyf - You are entitled to your own opinion, however, you are not entitled to your own set of facts. If the WBF wasn’t the place for you, that’s all fine and dandy. We wish you the best in finding a place you are happy with.

But I will mention that you have more than double posts there than you do here, over the course of 9 years, so the WBF obviously served a purpose for you at one point in time. You remind me of someone who gets married and posts on social media that she is the most beautiful, caring and loving wife a man could ever desire. Then you get a divorce and there is a complete 180. Instantly, she was always the devil and the world must now know.

Case in point with one of the falsehoods you spewed out here. You had mentioned that the mods are quick to ban folks for the slightest thing. With all due respect, that is a flat out LIE. We have literally gone years without banning anyone (spammers aside). We pride ourselves on that kind of record, as not many busy boards out there can boast that kind of success. Those who are in violation of the TOS are notified of their violations and unless the offense is so egregious that it demands immediate and strong actions, members get plenty of warning that they are out of line or in violation of the TOS of the forum (privately or publicly). That and we also have a moderation team that comes to a consensus that said member is out of line or banned before any action is taken. Again, unless the offense is so egregious that it demands immediate and strong actions.

I hesitated posting this and almost deleted it multiple times, but will post it anyway to set the record straight. As mentioned before - You are entitled to your own opinion. You are not entitled to your own set of facts. That said, this was not posted to start any argument. Just to set the record straight in a cordial manner.

BTW, Steve (one of the co-owners) no longer sells footers due to (honestly frivolous IMOcomplaints like yours.
