Whats playing on your system today?

Today I decided to listen to two of my favorite rock guitar heros and one great vocalist. Guitarist' Robin Trower, Ronnie Montrose and vocalist Davey Pattison.

I listened to Trower songs:
Bridge of sighs, Stitch in time, The fool and me, my personal favorite- Too rolling stoned and others.....

Then I pulled out "Gamma".
I listened to: Razor King, Wish I was and Skin and bone and others.....

Davey Pattison hooked has also up with Michael Shenker also. I really enjoyed my day so far. Anybody else heard anything good?

@nutty - Great story and review. I was at Southgate House Revival the night before to see dada and The Trews. That was a rockin' show for sure. I think there might have been 150 people in the sanctuary room. We all got our money's worth.
Ned's Atomic Dustbin - "Brainbloodvolume"

Listening to this for the third time this week. It's really growing on me. I've been a fan of their first two albums "God Fodder" and "Are You Normal" since they were released in the early '90s. Never hear this one until now. I like it.
Beck - "The Information" - in honor of seeing him last week open for U2 in Indianapolis....
@boxer12  -  I've always loved - "Come on feel" The Lemonheads. Haven't played it in a while, but I plan to remedy that within the next couple of days.
David Sanborn - "Another Hand"

I'm not much of a jazz fan, and I know many serious Jazz fans will dismiss David Sanborn as a "pop-jazz" player. However, I've had this album for a very long time and find it absolutely perfect for setting a mood. It is tremendously melancholy and may make the listener feel melancholy. Well, I'm feeling pretty melancholy right now, so this is very fitting.

What a wonderful, unexpected gift. Play the album from the beginning if you have the time. The first half is better than the second IMHO. But its all good.

Great playing from Bill Frisell, Charlie Haden  and other fine guest performers.
@falconquest - Adrian Belew! Alright man. That's what I'm talking' about. I love "Gunman".....
@stevizzy - Cool story. I've meet a lot of artist over the years. Many are really cool, approachable folks. Really just normal folks, trying to make a living. Nice that you, and your cats, got an autograph from Al Stewart.
Al Stewart - "Year of the Cat" and "Time Passages".
Marvin Gaye - "What's Goin' On?"
@bdp24 - Thanks. Yep, "Village Green" is excellent. It has special meaning for me now as I live in a tiny village that has a vibrant Village Green that hosts many village functions and celebrations throughout the year. It's a special place and I hope it stays that way. Guess I'm a preservationist!
@slaw and All, If you like Chris Hillman, The Byrds and Tom Petty, you should check out Roger McGuinn's "Back From Rio". Hillman and David Crosby join in, as well as a little Tom Petty and Elvis Costello. It's an awesome album. McGuinn's guitar sounds awesome too. Great songs, well recorded. Really good stuff......
"Come on Feel" - The Lemonheads

CD

Thanks for the reminder a couple of days ago @box
@uberwaltz - I haven't listened to Jethro Tull's "Crest of a Knave" in 20 years or so. Took it for a spin tonight. Not bad. I always liked the song "Farm on the Freeway".
@maholl50  - Welcome to the " What's playing on your system today?" thread. Keep 'em coming....
Michael Kiwanuka -  "Love and Hate" - Really great album. Sounds old school.
@slaw - "Mayonaise" is a great song indeed! That whole record is awesome......
Chip Taylor and Carrie Rodriguez - "Live at the Ruhr Triennale"

Stunning performances and sound quality. Seek it out if you like Country, Alt-Country, Americana or just a great sounding recording to show off your system. I believe it was released on CD only and it is not on Spotify or YouTube. There are copies for sale on Discogs.
Back to the beginning........

Nutty, this one's for you - Robin Trower - "Long Misty Days"
Steely Dan - "Gaucho" from YouTube via my new Auris BluMe bluetooth receiver. Have to play it from YouTube cause I don't own the LP (yet). But my birthday is tomorrow and I can always hope, right.......
@nkonor - That MCA Audiophile pressing is getting pretty expensive. I might pony up for one, or I might try a new re-issue. I'll reply back to this thread when I get whatever copy. It's a really fantastic album IMHO.
@slaw - Happy New Year! Enjoy your new copies of "Way Out West" and "Loud Hailer". I enjoy both of them very much and both prove that it is still possible to produce interesting and good sounding recording today. And by two guys who are not spring chickens.....
@nkonor @slaw - I ended up picking up the remaster of Steely Dan "Gaucho" at my LRS yesterday as a Birthday gift to myself. I'm listening to it now and it sounds very good. I would have liked to pick up the MCA Audiophile pressing, but a bird in the hand, and clean, new vinyl won out.

Happy New Year to You and ALL......
@bdp24 - I really like Buddy Miller. Based on your recommendation, I've order the Buddy and Julie Miller -S/T CD. Should have it in a couple of days. I'll let you know how I like it.

Too bad I didn't see your post about their 2009 release before I purchased the S/T CD. Would have rather ordered the newer record on Vinyl. Anyway, if I like the S/T recording, I'll probably pick up the LP too....
OK Guys, for you fans of Alt-Country/Americana I’m going to recommend a recording I’ve recommended a few times in the past. I believe this recorded was recommended here on AudiogoN several years ago, but I don’t remember who originally recommended it. Whoever it was, I thank you. It’s a wonderful recording.

Here goes: Chip Taylor and Carrie Rodriguez - "Live at the Ruhr Triennale". This is a fantastic recording by a couple of great artist, plus the band is really an All-Star Band. For anyone that doesn’t know Chip Taylor, he is the writer of both "Angel of the Morning" and "Wild Thing". He’s also the brother or Jon Voight. The aging Chip Taylor, and the very young Carrie Rodriguez (at the time of this recording) make great music together here. And the band is incredible - Bill Frisell, Greg Leisz, David Piltch, Kenny Wollesen and a special guest appearance by Buddy Miller.

This is playing on my system right now and I’m enjoying the crap out of it........
@slaw - Saw your post from 1/13/2018 regarding The Cranberries - "Everybody else is doing it, so why can't we?" on Analog Spark LP. I've always enjoyed that album, but only had it on original CD. Put it in my Amazon wishlist yesterday and woke up this morning to the news of Dolores O'Riordan's death. Went to Amazon to purchase the Lp and it had gone out of stock. Ran over to my totally awesome LRS - Plaid Room Records in Loveland, OH and they had a copy waiting for me at the front desk since I had called ahead.

Anyway, really sad news regarding Ms. O'Riordan. I've always liked The Cranberries sound. The Analog Spark reissue is fantastic. Much better than my old original release CD.

Thanks for the recommendation.
Nutty,

Too bad the Gardens had to be torn down. Was a nice old building. Beautiful facade. Also housed 2 sheets of ice used by youth, high-school and college hockey and figure-skating programs, covering the Greater Cincinnati Area, UC and Xavier. Was a great loss to those programs. I spent many Saturday and Sunday mornings there for youth hockey with my son. I hope they do something productive with the site.
Slaw - Thanks. I really like it. I'm trying to figure out if I can get home from my annual Colorado Ski Trip a day early to see Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives in the awesome Memorial Hall in Cincinnati.
@bdp24  - Yep, that Geraint Watkins album is a lot of fun. I heard about it from one of your previous posts sometime last year. I just streamed it, but it is on my Discogs wishlist.....
@bdp24  -
I can see Geraint winking at us as he sings.

Yep, I can imagine that too......

@bdp24 - Thanks for the post about Lucinda Williams. I did not know she had re-recorded "Sweet Old World". I always liked that album and "Pineola" in definitely in my top 5 favorite Lucinda Tunes. I'll get the new "This Sweet Old World" next time I'm at my LRS or order it if my peeps don't carry it.

Can't wait to hear it. I really like her current backing band - Buick 6. I've seen Lucinda with the current band a few times now and they are very good.
@bdp24 - Yep, Buick 6 is Lucinda's opening act on her tours for the last few years. They open with a cool instrumental set that really sets the mood for the show. They are a great sounding band IMHO.

After reading your post yesterday, I listened to "Sweet Old World" and "World Without Tears" last night. "Sweet Old World" was on an original CD. I think it sounded fine, and I've always been a big fan. I can say that it is slightly thin sounding, but I wouldn't have complained. If "This Sweet Old World" is better, I'm in for a treat. I do worry that Lucinda's voice may not be what it once was. But I'll wait to hear it before passing judgement.

I took a listen to "World Without Tears" too, also on CD. It is a much better sounding CD. Very full bodied sound. And  Doug Pettibone is AWESOME on guitar. Really good stuff. Yes, there are a couple of throw-aways, but the top 5 tracks on the album are very good. I love "Righteously", "Real Live Bleeding Fingers and Broken Guitar Strings", "Those Three Days", "Sweet Side" and "World Without Tears". Fine song writing and playing IMHO.
@cobbone1 - I don't think anyone can deny the quality of the voice of  Sir Thomas Jones Woodward! Add in your heritage and I think you're safe to listen to Tom Jones without fear of anyone pulling your man card. You're good to go buddy!
@tomcy6 - I picked up the Lucinda record today at my LRS. I'm with you. I agree with your assessment. More to come soon as I try to digest the new record.......
@slaw - It will be interesting to hear your take on "This Sweet Old World" since you are not familiar with the original. Are you going to also buy, or listen to, the original for reference? Before or after?
@bdp24 - My LRS - Local Record Store (In this case - Plaid Room Records, Loveland, Ohio)

I bought the vinyl LP. It is a double record on pink vinyl. The first 3 sides are the re-recording of "Sweet Old World" and side 4 is bonus tracks. The record sounds good. I just don't like the new versions of the songs compared to the originals. I especially don't like what she did to "He Never Got Enough Love" for which the lyrics are changed and it is now called "Drivin' Down a Dead End Street". So, the record is not thin sounding, like my original CD. But I don't like what they did to it. Nope, not one bit........

I wish they would have just re-mastered it (if possible) to make the original sound a bit fuller.
