Albert King - Live Wire, Blues Power on Stax

Basie Jam on Pablo

Coleman Hawkins Encounters Ben Webster on Verve

Cannonball Adderley in Chicago - mono recording
Elvis Costello and the Attractions - "Armed Forces"

Steely Dan - "Gaucho"

Patricia Barber - "Companion" MFSL 45 rpm
Hank Mobley - "Soul Station' Music Matters/Blue Note 45 RPM

Fantastic artist and fantastic recording. These Music Matters 45 RPM's are expensive, but to my ears, are better than the impulse 45 RPM releases or the Acoustic Sounds 45 ROM releases.

This album is got something for everyone who loves vintage jazz.....
The Producers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, i thought I was the only one. I like their debut record better than You Make the Heat though. What a great power pop band. I picked up both copies of their first two records in mint condition last week for $3 each. The vinyl store I bought them in had them in the 'Lunch Money' section. What a find!

Only power pop band of the late 70's / early 80's that I liked better was 20/20.
MacDadTX -

Don't feel guilty! Check out my new year's 'revival':

Prefab Sprout - Steve McQueen

The Blue Nile - Walk Across the Rooftops

Pyschedelic Furs - Mirror Moves

The Clash - London Calling

Elvis Costello - Armed Forces

By the way - you ought to find the Arcadia album (Simon Lebon's answer to Power Station). Incredible bass and music. Rather well recorded too.
New Dire Straits debut LP 180 gram remaster. Sounds very good but not sure I like it better than the Phonogram 1/2 speed remaster import from several years ago. Funny thing is that my Straits LP is 11.99 inches and not 12 inches in diameter. My VPI peripheral ring keeps falling off one edge of the record!

Also listening to:

Thelonius Monk - Something in Blue

The The - Mindbomb (great and underrated LP)

Elvis Costello - This Year's Model MFSL release
The The - Dusk - man what an underrated songwriter and performer

Radiohead - In Rainbows - why am I just starting to love this record?

Ben Webster/Sweets Edison - Wanted to do one Together

Peter Gabriel - Scratch My Back - the remake of Arcade Fire is soulstirring
The Mountain Goats - "All Eternals Deck" on Merge. 180g. Great music, great storytelling, great recording.

James Blake - "James Blake" on Atlas. 180g double LP. Trip -Hop, but more organic and unique. Also a great recording.
Dead Can Dance - "Spritchaser" Mofi- I've got the original 4AD release and the Mofi release is as good if not better.

Kenny Burrell - "Midnight Blue". Acoustic Sounds 45 RPM - really rich sound with "in the room" quality

Muddy Waters - "Folk Singer" Mofi - a tireless classic....
Destroyer - "Kaputt". Great music and recoding on Merge.

Fleetwood Mac -"Rumours". 45 RPM double LP reissue. I must concur with others, this pressing is incredible!
REM - Reckoning -original pressing on IRS

Branford Marsalis Trio - 'The Dark Keys' - great music, fantastic recording

Off Broadway - 'On' - guilty pleasure from 1979 Chicago band, power pop at it's best.
Off Broadway, AKA Off Broadway USA was a band that originated in the late 70's in Chicago. They released two albums, their debut 'On' and their sophomore effort, 'Quick Turns.'. Both were released on ATCO / Atlantic. Although they made some minor interest nationally, they were big in their native Chicago. They had 3-4 singles, all making Billboard top 100, but not cracking the top 40.

They were part power pop and part new wave. Lots of hooks, but sometimes corny lyrics. Surprisingly, both records were pretty well recorded. Rare and hard to find, if you come across either LP in the used bins, it will be worth the $5 to take a chance!
Psychedelic Furs - Mirror Moves : underrated Furs record

The Smiths - Meat is Murder : actually my least favorite Smiths release

Hank Mobley - Soul Station : Music Matters 45 RPM - outstanding!
Thurston Moore - "Demolished Thoughts". Sonic Youth front mans new solo record on Matador, Produced by Beck. kind of a Sonic Youth version of Beck's Sea Change LP. Great music, great recording. Unfortunately my copy has a few nasty right channel clicks and pops in the first song. Bummer. On Matador.

Wild Beasts - "Smother". On the Domino label. Fantastic, original music and phenomenal recording with great bass. Reminds me of Talk Talk records. One of my favorites of the year so far and comes on 180g virgin vinyl.
Elbow - "Build a Rocket Boys". Double LP 45 rpm Fiction label. great music and recording. Very textured. Guy Harvey is a genius.

Elvis Costello - "Get Happy!". MoFi 45rpm double LP. Great recording and music. Another MoFi winner.

Arctic Monkeys - "Suck It and See". 180g Domino release. Great music and the Monkeys release another solid LP. Average recording but still very enjoyable.

Cults -"Cults" Columbia Records release. 60's pop with 90's psych. Good song writing, great vocals. Recorded a little bright but great music.
Lloyd Cole - "Broken Record". 180g vinyl on some obscure German label. Cole's newest release gets him back to his earlier roots. As usual, his songwriting is superb and the LP is a great recording to boot. For Lloyd Cole fans - highly recommended.
Lloyd Cole night:

Lloyd Cole and the Commotions - Rattlesnakes

Lloyd Cole and the Commotions - Mainstream

Lloyd Cole - Lloyd Cole

Lloyd Cole - Broken Record (new 2010 release)

What a genius - part Verlaine, Cale, Lou Reed........Lloyd's the man!!
The Blue Nile - 'Peace At Last'. 1996 LP On Warner Brothers. Super hard to find on vinyl, but well worth it. Well recorded, if a bit bass-heavy. Great music as always from Paul Buchanan. More acoustic than their previous two Linn releases, but just as excellent, if not more emotive and personal.
Girls - Father, Son and Holy Ghost - average pressing on white and black vinyl; band from SF bay area. Impossible to describe - every song transcends the next. Best LP of music of the year so far. Don't shy away from the pressing, it won't get better than this for bands in 2011.

Lamb - Lamb - Debut record on Fontana by trip hop drum and bass duo from England. Great if you can find the vinyl -hard as heck to find from 1996.

Dead Can Dance - Spiritchaser - Mofi reissue. Great pressing, great recording, great music.
Grizzly Bear - Shields. 180g gold vinyl. Music 9/10; recording/pressing 6/10

Dead Can Dance -Anastasia 180g. Music 9/10: recording/pressing 7/10

Glenn Hansard - Rhythm and Repose 140g. Music 10/10; recording/pressing 10/10
Dirty Projectors - "Swing Lo Magellan." on the Domino label.

New release on 180 gram vinyl. Fantastic music and recording. Quirky and surprises at every turn. Uses female vocalists almost like instruments. Will be one of indie's best of 2012. Like candy for your speakers and your ears! 10/10.
Mark Knopfler - Shangri-La. 180g double LP. Super quiet vinyl. Music 9/10; pressing/recording 10/10

Dead Can Dance - Toward the Within - 4AD double 140g LP. Great dynamics/small venue live recording; Music 9/10; pressing/recording 8.5/10

Ray Brown / Duke Ellington - This One's for Blanton - Analogue Productions/Pablo 45 RPM double LP; Music 8/10; pressing/recording 10/10.
Dire Straits - "On Every Street" - Vertigo 140g vinyl; much overlooked last Dire Straits studio LP. Great sonics, great music. "You and Your Friends" is down right spooky sonically!

Rob Wasserman - "Duets" MCA 140g vinyl; incredible recording, audiophile classic

Hoodoo Gurus - Mars Needs Guitars (nice original aussie pressing on Mushroom)

Gene Ammons - Soulful Moods of Gene Ammons (Acoustic Sounds 45 rpm) - incredible recording and fantastic music
