For me its the first or very early LP's of: Allman Brothers - "Allman Joys" "Idyllwild South" Santana - "Santana" 200 g reissue Emerson Lake and Palmer - "Emerson Lake and Palmer" and, Beethoven - "Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major" Rudolph Serkin/Ozawa/BSO
Steven Wilson: The Harmony Codex sounds good streaming in all formats I’ve heard so far. This is an artist AND an expert producer. It was bound to sound good. I bought the LP. Was it worth it? Yes. It sounds even better than the streaming version.
Shadows: Foot tapper EP. One of the first records I bought. Still marvellously fresh, brings me right back to the early sixties. And - not just tonight, but the last two weeks: the remastered 1970-75 Genesis box, expensive, but very good. To my ears, even more of a positive difference from the originals than with the remastered Doors box (partly, I guess, because the original tapes were in a better condition).
I am recording Lps to digital, and the whole of the Spooky Tooth catalogue is on the turntable tonight. This is, politically, a somewhat embarassingly incorrect band that nevertheless had something to say, and especially, good music - even some of the fillers are interesting e g for bass and arrangement work.
For soft listening, try - Jobim: Wave (audiophile speakers corner LP) - Lynne: Just a little lovin Also, looking forward to Amadou and Mariam: Welcome to Mali, on LP, which I've preordered.
