Ahhhhh. Our Tuesday night listening session.

Really mixed bag of tunes this evening, including Red Hot Chili Peppers, Les Paul & Mary Ford, Johnny Cash, The White Stripes, Tony Bennett, Bobby Darin, Jimmy Reed, Eminem, Keith Jarrett and Charlie Hayden, Bill Evans, Buena Vista Social Club and Frank Sinatra.
Yes, cat was cryoed and while still frozen, we used his wiskers to play the LP's. That's the only way to get them stiff enough for 1.9 grams track force.
Rush, I have some of these but not the Britten. Is it being re pressed by Speaker Corner or anyone else?
Tuesday night music sessions with the gang. This is what I remember, (we played other titles).

Peggy Lee, 1956 mono LP, "Black Coffee."
Rickie Lee Jones, "Traffic From Paradise."
Ella Fitzgerald, 1960 Stereo, "Let No Man Write My Epitaph"
Vitaly Gnutov, "Balalaika Favorites" Rudolf Belov, Osipov State
Carmen McRae, 1990 Stereo, "Carmen Sings Monk"
Billie Holiday, "Lady In Satin" (45 RPM)
Tina Brooks, "Back To The Tracks" (45 RPM)

What?? No Steve Tibbetts? I understand one of his albums drew an audiophile in from the hallway at CES MANY years ago to meet Ralph Karsten.
That's terrible Ralph. I just located a copy of BIg Map Idea in Europe (original German ECM).

If you have not replaced it I will buy it for you. I cannot let mine go, you are aware I already loved Tibbetts music before we met.
I just ordered this Ralph. If you have a copy, I will keep the new one as back up.

Too difficult to locate on LP to pass it up, of all my sources I found only one LP of this title.

Let me know.
Yea, Tibbetts is great. I have all his LP's, including three copies of "Yr.'

Yr, was released on the ECM Records label, catalog number 1355 (1988), and is probably the recording you are enjoying.

However, this was originally released on Frammis Records (in 1980), some of which was recorded at Atma-Sphere. I have the original LP and my cover is the "night sky" art work. I believe it was also released with "day sky" artwork.

The day and night sky art work images are drawings by Steve Tibbetts himself. On the rear of the dust jacket is a photograph of Steve standing in his front yard. Looks to be about 8 years old at the time.

The ECM is edited from this original LP. If you really love this music, try to find the original. Not only is the ECM NOT FROM the master tape (but a copy of) one of the tracks has instruments missing.

I heard rumor that ECM could not get rights to that particular musician, so they edited him out.
Peter, Paul and Mary - Album 1700: My daughter loves their harmonies and has a real jones for Jet Plane

Siliab, that alone is reason enough to listen. Sharing music with your kids is the next best thing to love.
Emmylou Harris and Daniel Lanois, "Wrecking Ball", Cost me plenty to get this on LP, BUT I AM SO HAPPY TO HAVE IT !

Also, just bought the two new direct to disc releases in NYC (Stereophile Show) from Chad at Acoustic Sounds. Amazing recordings and superb music.

New Direct to Disc from Chad
Just now, viewing discussion topics I see:

Whats on your turntable tonight? Pops

I say, "Clean that record and see if it helps"

(Thanks Pops for inadvertently setting up this pun(ishment) .
Yep, except it was Lloyd and no Felicia.

I think Felicia did a head count of males versus females and decided to stay with her friends.

Lloyd listened to my system and after a long pause he said, "You have the worlds best turntable."

I think that was nice of him.
This last Tuesday night we played music I've acquired over the last few months as well as old favorites.

Some I remember are:

Gotan Project, "Lunatico"
Katie Melua, "Call off the Search"
Cassandra Wilson, "New Moon Daughter"
The Eels, "Electro Shock Blues"
Kylie Monogue, "Can't get you out of my head"
Squirrel Nut Zippers, "Hot"
Antony and the Johnsons, "I am a bird now"
Tom York, "The Eraser"
Jolie Holland "Escondida"
Gnarls Barkley (12" single), "Crazy"
The Best of Eddy Arnold, "Cattle Call"
Slipknot, the comment Lloyd was supposed to have made about my Walker TT was a joke (worked verbally Tuesday night but not all that well in print :^).

On topic, the following LP's were "on my turntable" for Lloyd Walker and the rest of my music loving group:

Red Hot Chili Peppers "By The Way"
Goldfrapp "Felt Mountain"
Eels "Beautiful Feak"
Eels "Electro Shock Blues"
Kate Bus "Aerial"
Lee Morgan "Candy"
Reiner-Chicago "Scheherazade"
Lonnie Johnson "Blues and Ballads"
Royal Ballet "(Gala Performances) Ernest Ansermet"
Cassandra Wilson "New Moon Daughter"
Kate Bush "Sensual World"
Ricki Lee Jones "Traffic From Paradise"
Miles Davis "Siesta"
Miles Davis "Tutu"
Donald Fagen "Morph The Cat"
Jan Jelineck "~Scape 007"
Bjork 'Debut"
Dave Brubeck "A la Mode"
Jellyfish "Bellybutton"
Man Jumping "World Service"
Yello "Flag"
Dead Can Dance "Aion"
The Streets "Original Pirate Material"

Actually quite a few more than these, we listened all day Saturday and again Tuesday night. Lloyd did say (and this is the truth) that he was pleased I played a variety of music. Seems he's bombarded with (only) audiophile LP's when visiting most audiophile groups.

He now has a copy of Kate Bush "Aerial" and wrote down titles of several other LP's.
No, the upgrade is not ready but he sure was talking positively about it and how I needed to move up when the time comes.

I'm sure like all other Walker products, this will be bargain priced :^).
Zaikes, your mention of
Carmen McRae -- Carmen Sings Monk
reminded me how long it's been since I last played this. An absolutely AMAZING piece of music, I'm going to pull it out enough from the stack to remind me to spin it next time the system is on.
Zaikes,

Looks like Johnson's, "Talkin' About Chicago" (1999) is on Delmark, typically a great label with "Music to My Ears" (1995) being his album last on the Hi label.

Which one are you referring to, or better yet, which is your favorite?
T_bone, which DD table is accelerating? I looked at the lineup in your system thread and you have quite a collection.
That same thing happens to Technics DD tables when one of the antique electrolytic caps fail. The good news is new caps are inexpensive, you should probably replace all of them when you go into the unit.

I did that to my MK2 and I'm having it done to my MK3. I suspect your P3 is suffering from the same problem.
My Tuesday night music meeting:

Johnny Hartman, "The Voice That Is"
Massive Attack, "Heligoland"
Rickie Lee Jones, "Traffic From Paradise"
Porcupine Tree, "Fear of A Blank Planet"
Porcupine Tree, "Stupid Dreams"
Ike Quebec, "Soul Samba"
Beach House, "Teen Dream"
Listened again tonight with a fellow wanting to audition the Allnic, short session but the following got spun before shutting down.

Massive Attack, "Heligoland"
Eric Clapton, "Layla"
Hampton Hawes, "Everybody Likes Hampton Hawes"
The Dave Brubeck Quartet, "Brubeck Desmond"
Daniel Lanois, "Acadie"
Last night during our otherwise serious listening sesson we stopped to play old material by Bob And Ray.

All of these make me laugh out loud,

Two Faces West
Komodo Dragon
Slow Talkers Of America
Just Plain Fancy Dan
Spelling Bee
Not the best recording, but I love King Crimson, "Discipline" from early 80s.

Heard it in my car and had to go home and play the LP.
Rush
Dead Can Dance, Into The Labyrinth - Mobile Fidelity Silver reissue - sonically scruptious, this 2 LP reissue is better than the original, and musically interesting and complex.

How is this better than the original 4AD if you can explain I would appreciate.

I have all the Dead Can Dance LPs since 1984. ("This Mortal Coil.")
Rush, thanks. I have the original and a sealed second copy but always on the lookout for superior software.

Do you have Dead Can Dance, Anastasis? Currently the LP is $25.00 but once out of print it will get expensive.
Philb7777
Albert,

Do you have Brendan Perry's solo LP's 'Eye of Hunter' and 'Ark'? If not, you are missing two more great records in DCD style.

I'll check them out and order. Thank you !

Movie sound track, "Drive."
Donald Byrd, "Royal Flush." (this is out of this world, love it).
Yello, "Touch"
Massive Attack, "Heligoland"
Joni Mitchell, "Blue"
Agnes Obel, "Wallflower"
09-14-13: Donjr
Albert, that Drive sound track peaked my interest. I've never seen the film. Can you elaborate for me? If not, I can check out Amazon reviews but I'd much rather hear what draws you to this material than most. I appreciate your diversity.

I own a music library with such diverse content, some is certain to offend everyone :-).

Drive is a great indy movie starring Ryan Gosling, a young (about 30) year old actor. Ryan strikes me as a real person in a field of actors that rely on overdone facial expressions, gestures and special effects to pull them through.

Ryan reminds me a tiny bit of Steve McQueen when he was young and doing action movies. Both are different enough to remember and believable enough to connect with as the movie unfolds.

I really liked the movie, among my favorites this past year. The music is as different as the movie, you should go to Amazon and play the MP3 samples and see how it strikes you.

Music I played today:

Felix Laband, "Thin Shoes In June"
Rickie Lee Jones, "The Sermon On Exposition Boulevard"
Porcupine Tree, "Stupid Dream"
Harold Land and Kenny Dorham, "Eastward Ho"
Frazy Ford, "Obadiah"
