Warren Zevon "The Wind" his last lp |
...…………..it's hard to think of any band that rocked harder...? |
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,......….....After sides 1 & 2 the SQ is more than acceptable. Nothing tipped up or any noticeable compression. My history with current Capitol re-masters has been mostly negative. Not here. |
AC/DC "If You Want Blood..You've Got It" from the box |

I pulled out my lp of Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush "Tales of the Unexpected" a couple weeks ago and it blew me away!
Here's an lp that is very well it's equal and I have no problem exclaiming it's superiority...….

Looking forward to tomorrow's listening which will include:
Dusty Springfield "Cameo" OP/has two of The Wrecking Crew participating Chris Rea "Deltics" sealed/OP
|
I just walked outside and there is my Traffic box set "The Studio Albums . 1967 -1974 1/2 speed re-mastered from the original tapes @ Abbey Road. I pre-ordered it through Amazon uk. (much better price). |
|
Shelby Lynne "I Am Shelby Lynne" |
Shelby Lynne "I Can't Imagine" |
Continuing on with the Traffic box...…...
"Shootout at the Fantasy Factory"
|
The Traffic box is actually a (slip-case) style. I like that much better. I think you all can read into my excitement for this set. |
Mary Gauthier "Live @ Blue Rock" |
Chris Rea "Deltics" I’ve always loved his voice. "Deltics" is a really nice pop lp with nice production and Ex SQ. A few of the songs sound like they could be on Dave Mason’s "Let It Flow" lp. The title song is the standout. Sometimes I hear a little Dave Mason and Bruce Cockburn in his voice/vocal style on this particular lp.
|
@jamesclarke,
His early stuff was obviously more pop oriented compared to "The Road To Hell" (a great lp!). I mentioned "What Ever Happened to Benny Santini" the other week. CR's hit off that lp "Fool if you Think it's Over" is perfect. Do you remember hearing it?
|
Up Next:
"Low Spark of High Heeled Boys" now we have 6 band mates. More interesting for me is, I can compare at some point my MFSL to this version, both of which are 1/2 speed recordings.
|
Up next.... "Heavy Traffic" w/ the addition of another band mate ...Chris Wood...……….. ………...………………………. @melvinjames,
Played that one last week...SQ = Ex! ….Oh yeah...Welcome!
|
Dusty Springfield "Cameo" This is a lovely record. It has the Philly Sound that I'm a sucker for. Hal Blaine and Carole Kaye play on the record. This is an OP ABC/Dunhill (M) and it sounds excellent!
|
Dave Mason "Let It Flow" gold stamped promo/DJ timing strip/(M-) |
After playing side 1 of Traffic "S/T", I’m impressed. Having said that my only other copy is the Simply Vinyl that I haven’t heard in years. I never tried to search out OP Traffic lps because, as you all know, they are expensive. That’s the reason this box appealed to me, especially when I’ve had other/many positive experiences with Abbey Road 1/2 speed re-masters. It was a no-brainer for me. This one, so far sounds present an pretty natural without being hyped up or exaggerated. We’ll see......
The fact that, with this lp...the vinyl was perfectly flat, quiet and it just has that quality feel, really helps. .
|
The Pretenders "Last of the Independents"
"I'm a Mother"!!!!!!!!!
|
Here is my ongoing thread from the Traffic Box........
So, from my musical memory.... the MFSL "Low Spark...." seems to bring the bass energy to the forefront. This is a theme throughout the lp. The same lp from the box....just gets it right all the way through.... But I will say, the sonics are getting to be more similar now at this point. |
@melvinjames,
Glad you're here.
|
"Low Spark" was dished
"Was" dished. Next time it's played, it'll be flat.
|
Up next: "John Barleycorn Must Die"...Dave Mason exits here...
Wow. I’m already, ready to proclaim this box THE best buy of 2019. I will say, I've NEVER enjoyed these lps more than now!
|
Frank Marino & Manhogany Rush "Tales of the Unexpected" |
|
@1614,
Interesting listening my friend.
|
There are two lps left in the box. I've never heard either.
From my vantage point, I proclaim the Traffic Box to be one that I'd recommend to any vinyl listener.
|
Johnathan Wilson "Fanfare" !!!! |
Ted Nugent 'Free For All" WLP/gold stamped promo/DJ timing strip |
